Their date had started with Hop asking Schilly about her research on why Pokémons who used transform capacities on Pokémon capable of Gigamaxing could not themselves Gigamax.

It had ended up with the two of them being expulsed from the dinner they were having a date in, because they had been there for five hours straight, and they were about to close.

By conventional means, this might not count as a date. They had barely ate, Schilly too busy explaining the different scientific theories about why and how Dynamax worked and how the anatomy of Pokémons changed in the process, and Hop too busy listening to her.

Conventions, by all means, could get lost. Hop did have a fun time, thank you very much, and according to her large grin, Schilly was ecstatic to have been set free to speak of her passion. And even if the boy had sometimes been lost in the amount of info dump, he had learned a lot of knowledge in the past few hours.

“I’m thirsty…” Schilly groaned on his side. One could only go so far than speak for hours straight without putting a strain to their throat.

“I guess so…” Hop slightly chuckled. “You know, there this café, near the station, that is doing a great hot chocolate. And they’re open 24 hours a day, so we won’t get expulsed because we stay too late… What do you think? Do you wanna finish about how some objects stop working when the Pokémon holding it dynamax?”

“You really want to hear about it? Because you see, there was this article last month, that explains that potentially…”

She kept talking all the way to the café, and changed of topic for how a Dynamax Pokémon could not be affected by Curse Body as they received their mugs of hot chocolate. And during this whole time, Hop kept staring at her with a dreamy smile.

Yes, he really did love that girl.

Hop wasn't really sure what he was doing on this Isle, but at the very least he knew Schilly felt the same as he did.

Go to the Isle of Amor, Leon recommended. It'll be worth it, he said.

Sure, he's getting stronger as a trainer, and sure it's fun on the Isle. But how is he, or Schilly, supposed to get their purpose back? Hop lost against Sou in the Championship and declined the offer of becoming Champion. Professor Magnolia stepped down leaving Schilly with no one to teach her more about Dynamaxing.

The Bulbasaur entrusted to Hop nudges against his leg. It seems he was once again lost in his thoughts.

Bulbasaur sends out one of its vines and wraps around Hop's wrist, pulling him hard than he expects.

"Alright, alright, I'm coming!" Hop exclaims as he's dragged into another room in the Dojo.

Hop isn't the least bit surprised at the location Bulbasaur has taken him. The Squirtle in the room is waving them over, without its trainer's knowledge with their back facing Hop.

"Uh, Hey, Schilly," Hop looks everywhere but at the girl in question, "you missed today's practice, Avery tripped and fell into a mud pile, it was pretty funny."

Schilly turned to the boy and replies, "Oh! Sorry! I couldn't fall asleep last night so I guess I slept through all that. I hope Mr. Mustard isn't too mad."

It's odd. Seeing Schilly act like this. Her facade can fool the fellow apprentices on the island, but it can't fool him. Schilly is just as lost as he is, without having a real purpose. Sure, even without Professor Magnolia Dynmaxing is still a thing, but with all the destruction caused by Eternatus no one really wants to see it now.

Schilly's passion was no longer within reach, just like Hop's dream.

"Do you-do you wanna talk about it?" Hop asks. "About how you're feeling about being here - if you're up to it that is."

Schilly shakes her head.

Hop sighs and wonders if he should just call Leon for help, he'd probably know what to do.

"I'm sorry," Schilly says after a moment, "that you have to check up on me."

Hop looks at her straight in the eye, "Don't say that I'm glad to be here, with you!"

He then gets a full view of her, including her hair up now in a bun, and feels his face get hot and looks away once again.

Hop's too distracted by trying to keep the blush off his face to feel Schilly wrapping her arms around him and holding him close.

"Thanks," Schilly says face pressed into his gi, "for being here for me."

Hop doesn't respond, he's pretty sure his heart is about to jump out of his throat, but he nods and wraps one arm around her.

They're not okay, not yet, but they'll get there. Together.
