more schustofen headcanons... they make me giggle and kick my feet. i need schuster being head over heels in love

💫 Hey hey!! Ask, and you most assuredly will receive! 😌✨

💫 Schuster x Richtofen HC’s! ✨

💫 Any time Schuster expresses doubt, Richtofen’s confidence alone is enough to assure him.

💫 The two of them are able to work in absolute silence, and often times it looks like they can communicate telepathically. If Richtofen needs a pen or a scalpel, Schuster will hand him one when he simply just lifts his hand, open palm.

💫 Likewise, when Schuster needs lab results, papers or even a sharpener, Richtofen will walk past his desk and place whatever he needs down in front of him.

💫 Although it looks like telepathy, this is actually happening because they both keep stealing glances at each other and notice what the other is about to need. Neither one of them suspects the other knows about those little glances.

💫 The trust Schuster has in Richtofen is absolute, and the fondness and returned trust that Richtofen has in Schuster is unparalleled. Whatever one is doing, it must be right! That’s why Schuster let Richtofen drag him into the M.T.D, and also why Schuster didn’t put up a fight when Griffin Station was being built.

💫 The pair of them only hug when emotions are really high, usually sad ones. But, that doesn’t mean they aren’t touchy. An experiment proved successful? Richtofen is firmly grabbing and patting Schuster’s shoulders! Their calculations work out? Schuster’s hand lifts the same time as Richtofen’s for a high five!

💫 When starting to lose his mind, Schuster is patient with Richtofen. He’s such a diva and has a short fuse with most people, but with Richtofen he never loses his cool for too long. When Richtofen once snapped at him for interrupting him while he was trying to record something, Schuster just silently waited until the man was finished before speaking. (This happens in an audio log!)

💫 Schuster knew that Richtofen was becoming unstable, but didn’t have the heart to try and help. Really, what could he have done? But keeping it to himself hurt a lot too. No one else really noticed when Richtofen seemed…Off. but, Schuster did.

💫 Working at the Nevada base, Schuster would get annoyed when his colleague didn’t just hand him whatever he needed without saying a word. He also once put his hand up for a high five and then slowly retracted it, feeling an emptiness that felt like his old friend.

💫 Richtofen also felt that same emptiness being away from Schuster for so long, but he had no choice but to be laser focused on his new goals.

💫 When his soul was returned to his body, Richtofen stayed awake one night and was met with Schuster again finally. They caught up in a hushed tone, hands against their side of the bars of the cage Richtofen was kept in.

💫 Schuster asks his burning questions: ‘What happened to you?’ ‘Where did you go?’ ‘How did you get here?’ And ‘Why did you do all of this?’ Though his questions are desperate, he frames them in a way that pertains to their partnership in the lab. What he really wants is to ask more personal questions like: ‘Did you miss me?’ ‘Why did you stop our partnership?’ And ‘Can I come with you?’

💫 When the portal opens up and the Primis crew walk into the cell, what we don’t see is the glance that Richtofen throws to Schuster over ‘Primis’ Richtofen’s shoulder.

💫 We also don’t see Schuster’s face paling. He knows Richtofen is off again, and it might very well be the last he ever sees of his dear friend. He lifts a hand in a hesitant wave, swallowing the lump in his throat. Richtofen nods to him. In that small nod, he returns Schuster’s sentiments of missing him, wanting him to tag along.

💫 By the fire on his final night alive, Richtofen is actually thankful Schuster didn’t come with him. At least his old lab partner had a shot at a normal life and a painless death from old age.

💫 So uh…These turned out a bit more angsty than I was expecting! ^^;;; I just love the depth they both have as the plot points of the story go on! I hope this gave you some insight into their dynamic! Thank you for your ask! ✨
