I'm craving a re-watch of SCI. Bai Yutong's realization of what Zhan Yao started doing under Zhao Jue's influence is still stuck with me, even after years. Gosh...
It’s strange, back then, while I was watching Guardian and SCI, I was more obsessed with Guardian but now, looking back, it was actually SCI that left a truly lasting impression on me and I miss the show and the characters more. How... odd.
Ep 22 of SCI - or the one where Bai Yutong & Zhan Yao adopted a kid together. Because, why the heck not, right? I loved that when Bai Yutong agreed that they would adopt the little boy, Zhan Yao was all, “We will? O.o!!! Oh, well, I guess... *sigh*” And then he just ran with it. These two!
If you really are afraid of ghosts, then I’ll hunt ghosts with you. Alright?
SCI, episode 18
This exchange was so great! Zhan Yao finally admitted he was wrong about the supernatural phenomena and Bai Yutong agreed to “hunt ghosts” with Zhan Yao, seeing how much the whole thing kept rattling Zhan Yao’s nerves. I loved the bit where Bai Yutong got miffed all over again and jumped to his feet to leave - and then he saw the way Zhan Yao slumped, rubbing the bridge of his nose like he had a headache... and Bai Yutong gave in. Gosh, he has a soft spot - or a blind spot? - the size of China for Zhan Yao. Like when they realized that Zhan Yao’s informant was just using him and Bai Yutong got so mad on Zhan Yao’s behalf!
Also, Zhan Yao still hasn’t told Bai Yutong that he saw Zhao Jue in the archives! Every time he starts telling him that, something comes up, like Bai Yutong’s cell phone ringing or something. And then Zhan Yao forgets about it and... yes, Bai Yutong still doesn’t know that Zhao Jue has his creepy fingers in this pie, too!
There was something in SCI, episode 16 that I found really interesting - besides the conflict brewing between Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao, that is. And that’s what Zhao Zhen said about Zhao Jue: “What [my uncle] uses isn’t magic. It’s sorcery on a much higher level than magic. Sorcery that manipulates a person’s heart.” Interesting. And I really loved that because, yeah, that’s exactly what Zhao Jue does to Zhan Yao, isn’t it? Zhan Yao’s too smart for Zhao Jue to manipulate his mind but he can twist his heart so that he can’t really tell right from wrong. But that’s why Zhan Yao has Bai Yutong who might not be a genius like him but he has a steadfast heart, so he realizes what Zhao Jue’s games are about.
And I finished watching SCI *cries in the corner* Gosh, that last episode! I have so many questions, so many feelings! Like...
Did Zhao Jue actually do something to Zhan Yao when he hypnotized that guy in the interrogation room? Because it looked like Zhan Yao was being dragged under, too!
Who waited for Zhao Jue outside the police station? And why the cuffs? What is his plan? It seems that he’s already set it in motion. Did it have something to do with the fact that the bad guys wanted to kidnapped the little boy, Yangyang, but also Zhan Yao for some reason?
Zhan Yao’s dad is quite a cold guy but it seems he genuinely loves Zhan Yao - and Bai Yutong, too? But when he threatened Zhan Yao that he would separate him and Bai Yutong if Zhan Yao continued down that path with Zhao Jue... can he actually do that? Somehow separate them? Does he have that power?
When Zhan Yao almost killed the bad guy! O.O Bai Yutong’s reaction!
Their little talk at the painting of the devil and the angel arm wrestling, about how the devil was dragging a man to hell while the angel was trying to save him but couldn’t - and Zhan Yao responded that maybe the man went to hell on his own, voluntarily... Devil=Zhao Jue, Angel=Bai Yutong, the victim=Zhan Yao?
And then the after credit scene O.O!!! That scene O.O!!!
Also!!! Bai Chi and Zhao Zheng now live together? Bai Chi moved in with Zhao Zheng to take care of him? Aww...
What’s really intriguing is that the moment Bai Yutong gets into verbal fisticuffs with Zhan Yao and they drift apart, Zhao Jue is there to get his claws into Zhan Yao. The guy must have a sixth sense or something which tells him when Zhan Yao is at his most vulnerable. The moment Bai Yutong’s back is turned, Zhao Jue already starts working on reshaping Zhan Yao.
The scene in the archives in SCI, ep 17 was fantastic! Zhao Jue set it all up so that he could meet Zhan Yao there and give him that clue - and also to tell him that psychic powers actually exist. And I wonder if it’s actually true in this series because what Zhao Jue - and Zhan Yao too later on - can do really is stunning.
Also, I wonder why Zhan Yao’s so terrified of ghosts. He’s a rational man, a real genius. One would think that he would not believe in the supernatural in general and in ghosts in particular. And yet. So... why?
Zhan Yao, they’re talking about you...
SCI, episode 15
And the cat’s finally out of the bag! Yay! This episode, the whole arc with Zhao Jue & Zhan Yao, their first meeting in the graveyard - “You don’t have the heart to let them catch me, do you?” - and then the ending! That ending! “No matter whose son he is...” and Zhan Yao’s flashback to his first meeting with Zhao Jue in that prison cell! Eek! I mean... eek! And now both Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong know! *giddy*
Speaking of them two! That scene in the showers and the one in the sauna O.O What was the point? Besides showing off Gao Hanyu’s incredible, drool-worthy physique? They could’ve had that chat over coffee or-or-or in the car. Not that I’m complaining, mind you. Have I already mentioned that Gao Hanyu’s hot?
