In 1984 Dr Peter Venkman caused turmoil in the science world by fudging statistics during psychological trials. He ran trials testing the sixth sense which included male and female subjects. This experiment proved to be one of the most controversial trials ever conducted by a psychologist. He would purposely shock male patients claiming that their sixth sense was nonexistent. While most males did, indeed, fail to show promise he was unjust in his practice when he would ignore the wrong answers of his female subjects. Scientist speculate it was to raise his chances of finding a female counterpart for himself since he had put all his time into his studies, leaving him alone at an older age. This would ultimately tear apart the science community when it came to light that he used "shock therapy" which is seem as inhumane while conducting his trials. How it came to light: While he was praised by some in his field after his "discovery," some others would question his statistics and resolve for they seemed to be skewed. His data showed an astonishing 95% of women had a sixth sense while 8% of males were said to have it. Most scientist speculated the reason behind this was females used more of their brain than males. It wasn't known what exactly went on behind the scenes, though, and everything was speculation until one subject came forth and opened up about the shock therapy. "It was awful. I would guess what was on the other side of the card but always seemed to fail and never give him the proper response that he wanted. It was followed by jolts of electricity causing psychological damage. I feel as though its a big reason why I'm so stressed and can't seem to function properly in fear of being wrong. It still follows me and haunts me to this day. I even have trouble articulating words and sometimes studder." He asked to be anonymous in fear of what would follow. Dr Peter Venkman would cause a huge backlash after his tactics of shock therapy came to light, leading to an investigation of his works. It was later discovered that he would purposely lie and shock test subjects as previously stated during his trials and continue to use it for his statistics. His published works would become discredited and to this day serves as one of the most controversial human trials in the last century. It raised a question of just how many fraudulent trials exist done by immoral scientist. As you can guess Venkman had to forfeit his license. Subjects of the trials would then bring a class action lawsuit against Venkman and settled in court for $98,550 awarded to the test subjects for his trials. Where is he now?: After some time he was slowly cast out of the spot light. During the immediate time after the lawsuit he worked for Hammermill paper company as a service representative. He would lay low for a while and let his errors exit from the minds of the American People. He later joined Ghost Hunters on the Sci Fi channel. In doing this he wants to show that we do have a sixth sense and can feel when ghost are around. He hopes to bring some sort of validation to his previous work by hunting ghost but not many people are buying it. He hopes to restore his image but his controversial trials and published works he caused will never be forgotten by the science community.
