So in light of that last post I reblogged about academia and science communication, I thought people might be interested in SciAccess 2020, a free conference hosted on Zoom all about accessibility in science, specifically focusing on promoting disability inclusion and equity, but also advocating for diversity in general. They just confirmed Dr. Soyeon Yi as this year’s keynote speaker! She is the first and only South Korean astronaut, and an all-around really cool person! It takes place on June 29th, 2020 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm EST.
If you’re interested in astronomy, there’s also a series of weekly webinars called “Making Space for All” every Thursday at 3:00 pm EST. Yesterday’s was about growing food in space, next week is about neutrinos! You can find the whole list and more information here!
The conference has live ASL interpretation and CART captioning, but if you want or need other accessibility options, you can request it at registration! Anna Voelker (the person running it) is a good friend of mine, and I can guarantee they will bend over backwards to accommodate you.
Last year’s conference was amazing, and I know Anna has been working really hard to make sure this year’s is also really awesome, despite the current situation. But hey, this year it’s free, so even if you couldn’t travel normally, you can still hop online and check it out!
You can register here, and you can find more information here, or by sending me an ask! If I don’t know the answer, I’ll pester Anna and get back to you!
Hope to see you all there!
