finding it harder and harder to root for the magic side in narratives that are all "uuuuu technology is so good and advances so fast its too hawd for magic to keep up :(" >look inside >tfw it all keeps boiling down to defeatism and an utter lack of unorthodox thinking or critical analysis for anyone who ISN'T Team Science. >tfw your seemingly strange and mystical thinking that should be great for unorthodoxy turns out to be wildly dogmatic, orthodox, and suffocating after all, and based heavily on rules that you've never once thought critically about or tried to cross-examine. like i sympathize but like. at a certain point you all gotta admit this is kind of your fault too. like not even settings where magic and technology truly don't mix have any real excuse because its still like. ok but adapt anyway??? problem solve anyway??? you are sapient beings? there is more than One Way to live and think and do things? my god???
like it pretty much only truly makes sense to me in settings where scientific protocols and understanding like have a literal metaphysical diminishing effect on magic as if magic is in some way "powered by" or literally "rooted in" fundamental mystery and uncertainty. or as if people subconsciously and accidentally create a collective "anti-magic" field just by believing it's fake too hard. but even then those settings keep implying there is some nebulous ideal point of understanding and intellectual rigor to get magic to work, and that you can't be too dumb and incurious either which in turn has this unsettling implication that magic is essentially just a phase, bordering on some kind of "glitch" that intelligent species can temporarily exploit, in terms of cosmic timescales. because otherwise i'd suspect that the most magically potent entity in existence is not even some demigod or whatever the fuck
