Scott SLRM power input
Replaced the dead man condensers that are across the power inlet with new Y type safety condensers. Checked the old ones which were hermetically sealed in an oil filled can, and they were fine, exactly on value! I won’t worry about the rest of the ones in the set. These, however, can cause safety problems if the old ones were to fail in a short condition. The Y tpe fail open, so are much safer.

After a great deal of research trying to find out what kind of antenna connector plugged into the antenna socket of my Scott radio, I found out it is a Navy type 49121 plug, which is virtually unobtainable, so I am going to change the antenna connector on the back of the radio to a modern SO-239 which has been standard for YEARS, and the mate for which, the PL-259 is easily obtainable.
It is time to begin to restore my Scott SLRM radio, made by Scott Radio Labs during World War Two as a “morale”“ receiver for use on merchant ships and Navy ships in convoys so the crew could listen to entertainment and sports broadcasts from back home. It is specially designed and the parts shielded so that it does not radiate electromagnetic signals which could be picked up by a U-Boat and homed in on. The Scott Radio Labs company was the direct successor to the famous E. H. Scott company which made some of the finest radio receivers of the 1930s.
