Important OC questions: which of them pines? Who hankers? Who goes up to their prospected love interest and says “you me, dinner at 7,”?
Howdy, nonny. Well, let’s see.
Scout Shepard is probably the only one of my oc’s who ever asked anyone out to dinner, romantically. And she definitely was the pursuer in her relationship with Garrus. Aeryn Hawke is the mom friend, all of her chums (including her romantic interest) have been forcibly dragged to dinner at the estate but she prefers to be chased not do the chasing, romantically.
All of them pine, to a degree. I like pining. I like complicated romantic relationships. Aeryn probably did the *most* pining, being in love with Sebastian and realizing it early on but absolutely refusing to compromise his vows by any overt flirting, once she realized. It was about six years of it, all told. Aedan Hawke pined a bit in the three years between the death of her mother and Danarius’ end.
Jacen pines after Tali in the months after he goes back to the Alliance to be tried and she returns to the Flotilla but he absolutely re-initiates that relationship as soon as he gets a chance.
Aedan Shepard, of course, but she was *dead* for quite a while and it cuts out a lot of the pining when you’re dead, tbh. She frequently initiated *physical* relationships but that’s a whole different kettle of fish.

1. Why did you pick their name?
Scout is a nickname for my Altaira Shepard. Altaira for high-flying bird and Scout because that’s what her mom called her intrepid exploring toddler who always managed to find a way to break out of whatever was pinning her down.
Jacen is named for Han and Leia’s kid in the Extended Star Wars stuff, tbh. :D
16. Kitchen catastrophe or gourmet home cook?
Scout very much likes good food and searches out the best restaurants but she is NOT a cook.
Jacen is a solid sort of make breakfast, make casseroles kinda guy. After the war, he bakes a lot of bread in that kitchen of Anderson’s and learns how to bake dextro for Tali.
17. What's their breakfast like?
Scout loves the yeasty semolina pancakes her grandmother’s cook would serve with honey and jam when she’s back there. If she’s not aboard ship, she’s probably grabbing some sort of bread and spreadable goat cheese, maybe drizzled with honey?
Jacen’s a savory oatmeal sort of guy, maybe with an egg over easy ontop.
no one goes from “hey i get to dress pretty” to “regrets i have them” faster than Shepard, lol

✌️ - are there any gestures or touches that your character shares with a friend/team/loved one that are a type of code between them?
Jacen and Scout are both big fans of the forehead touch for Tali and Garrus, respectively. Scout because I think it’s probably the goto romantic gesture for turians and Jacen because it’s the safest way to show Tali some affection, especially if he does the heart traced in condensation after, :D. Kaidan and Jacen have a fist bump handshake thing, but Jacen is also prone to fistbumpfistbump BEARHUG if it looks like Kaidan is too deep in his own head. Scout and her sorority sisters have a little friendly hand signal game. Other than that, both of them are pretty self-contained, in normal circumstances.
🤝 - how comfortable is your character with the ‘professional’ type of touching/gestures? (i.e. handshakes, having a card handy, small talk, etc)
Ooh. Jacen has a good square handshake and doesn’t do the casual overpowered thing because his moms taught him to be careful with his strength, but other than that? Not great. It takes until 3 for him to be good at the speeches and the social stuff that being Commander Shepard requires.
🤙 - how does your character’s relationship with touch change if they get tipsy or otherwise chemically unbalanced?
If it doesn’t make her break out her dancing shoes, Scout is prone to being a drapey sort of tipsy, she’ll find a tallish friend and lay her arms around their shoulders. Garrus is really good for that :D

What would damage a friendship for Shepard?
For Jacen, any sort of two faced nonsense. Being friendly with him, then talking behind his back, making fun of his quirks. That sort of thing.
For Scout, it’s probably more of a lack of integrity of any sort. She doesn’t like cheats, she doesn’t like liars. Even if she found someone amusing, that sort of thing would shut it down fast.
For Aedan, it’s trickier. She’s not perfect, she certainly doesn’t expect anyone else to be. She’d say anyone who took advantage of weaker people, but she adores the krogan and they make a habit of it. Looking at her relationships, she likes people to...own up to what they’re bad at. She doesn’t mind covering for a weakness, she’s got plenty, she just wants you to admit it.
What would be their perfect date?
Scout likes a big, walloping romantic gesture. She wants the roses and candlelight and champagne. Barring that, her guy learning a dramatic, human dance ritual? That was pretty swell.
Jacen just wants to hang out and not get shot at, thanks. A restaurant that caters to both levo/dextro diets and a not too serious movie or play: he might think it was fun to be super civilized for a night. Cuddles.
Aedan needs something physical, hiking up a good climb or scuba or something of that nature. Followed up by an afternoon in the sun and a very simple finger food type meal. It probably needs to end in sex.
Is there anything they dislike about the other?
Not so much *dislike.* Both Aedan and Kaidan have things that can get exhausting, now and again. Aedan flails a little at how easily Kaidan sees through her, it makes her want to hide sometimes. Kaidan wants to shake her for not realizing that sometimes people need you to tell them when you’re in trouble and not have to connect eight different micro expressions and the way you take your coffee, Shepard. (sorry, had a moment, lol). Aedan gets tunnel vision, Kaidan can be a little too righteous. Both of those are things they admire but it’s hard to *live* with when people keep trying to murder you. Aedan tries to laugh off pain of any sort, Kaidan can get lost fixating on a detail. Nothing huge, but things that would probably become issues if they wouldn’t talk them out, eventually.
I copped out a little on this because of plot, but there is one thing on Aedan’s end. She, at first, very much dislikes the fact that Kaidan is different. She falls in love internally screaming because it’s terrifying. When Anderson and the Alliance turns their back on her it makes her angry but she’s never angry at Kaidan and that’s terrifying, too. It’s a goddamn mess internally and it takes her a huge chunk of time to process it. Good thing she went to prison and had a little thinking time.
Is there an enemy for whom your Shepard have/had respect?
An actual enemy? No. She ends up having to treat the Council adversarially to get what she wants done. She generally respects them by 3, gets where they’re coming from. She also would like to bury her head in the sand. But she has a job to do. She ends up fairly averse to the Quarians but Tali keeps Aedan from seeing them as enemies. For all her shades of grey though, Aedan knows evil when she sees it. Saren’s a bad guy in evil’s pocket. TIM’s a bad guy with deep pockets and no moral center. The Reapers are evil. The closest she might come to it is the Batarians, Balak in particular. She respects that he pulls his shit together to help his people in the end.

4. Who initiates the forehead touch™?
For Scout and Garrus, I think it’s *probably* Garrus, I like the idea of that being sort of a turian sign of affection, what with them having no lips and all. Plus he’s taller, even with Scout being 6′3″ so it’s a lovely sort of natural thing for him to lean over her and *bop*
For Jacen and Tali, I’m going to say it’s him. It seems like a natural sort of reaction to one of her nervous rambles to reach over, take her gently by the elbows and drop his head carefully against hers. And then maybe fog up her mask and draw a little heart in it :D
Aedan and Kaidan...hmm. That’s more of a thing that comes later for them, in 3, when they *finally* get to share space a little. And it’s Aedan, she reaches over one day right before they pile in the shuttle for a mission and pulls him down to touch helmets. Sort of becomes a pre mission gesture between them and (marines being a superstitious lot) they get in a hurry once and *don’t* and Vega reaches over and bonks them together, “What’s the matter? You wanna jinx us?!”
5. Where do they first say “I love you”?
Scout and Garrus save the love talk until she finds him on Menae and he gets back on the ship and then it’s during the initial “I wasn’t sure how to greet you” conversation in the gunnery.
Jacen and Tali exchange their I love yous in the cabin after the attack on the Collector Base, Jacen first, since he beats himself up the whole time thinking “he’s almost gotten her killed and all this, she needs to know.” I think Tali holds off a little, but definitely before she gets back to the flotilla.
Kaidan ‘fesses up while they’re down on the beach between 1 and 2. It spills out of Aedan in the SR1 cabin about 5 minutes before she dies in 2. But as soon as they’re back together in 3, she says it as often as he stands still to hear it.
13. Who likes to be held and who likes to hold?
Garrus really, really likes all of Scout wrapped around him, all soft and warm, and Scout is totally ok with that!
Jacen discovers he very much enjoys having his head in Tali’s lap but she likes to be little spoon, so it’s probably 50/50 for them.
Kaidan is so warm and Aedan, at least by the war, is kind of addicted to getting to benefit from that. But Kaidan’s a cuddle dude and once she figures it out, she loves to have him in her lap, too.
