Catching up to me is talking about all the media I've recently consumed so

“Have ye seen the latest season then? It was bloody awful!” Demo howled and slapped his knee. “It was a train wreck, I’m tellin’ ye!”

Scout laughed, matching Demo’s volume despite not knowing the reference. “No, I haven’t watched any of the new seasons, honestly, I can’t tell you the last time I even watched TV, not with these kids around. But sometimes I read them the young readers edition, but I think they’re still too young to get it.”

Demo nodded, feeling a little disappointed. His mum never watched ‘Ghost D.A.’ with him, she sometimes listened in, but usually ignored it. And Eyelander had long since given up on the series.

“What about them ‘BONK! Boy’ comics? You still read them? I read one a few months ago when they killed off some big character.”

“Oh what? Really?” Scout leaned in, eager to hear about the comic series. “Yeah, no, I haven’t read any comics in a while- Tanya! Put that down!”

Scout left the conversation, jogging over to his daughter to take Sniper’s kukri from her.

Demo let his shoulders slump. He’d been excited about this evening, been ticking the days of the calendar as if he were waiting for St. Nick. But he could barely get a word in with Scout, not between him hosting and the kids. He hoped that after dinner and dessert, when things settled down a bit more he could really talk with him, catch up, maybe even propose a date…Demo shook the thought from his head.

There was no space in Scout’s life for that anymore. He stood and made for the coat rack.

“Oh! Are you leaving already?” Scout asked. He had one of his kids in his arms, but as he got closer he gently placed them down. “Go and ask Uncle Spy for uh, go ask him…just go to Uncle Spy for a second, okay?”

The kid bolted off, probably to beg Spy for a turn at his disguise kit.

“Yeah, it’s getting’ late, and mum doesn’t like us driving at night. Though, I keep sayin’ it don’t make a difference to her.”

“Oh jeez, I was hopin’ we could catch up some,” Scout rubbed the back of his neck.

Demo opened his mouth, “Ahh, well, let’s see here, have you watched that new old lady series? Eyelander loves it, it’s a bit flowery for me, but-“

“We don’t gotta talk TV, Demo,” Scout said.

“Uh,” Demo let his mouth fall open again, searching for a conversation topic. “I haven’t done much of anythin’ these days…”

Scout stepped in closer to him, took Demo’s coat from his hand and hung it back on the rack. “I can think of a few other things we need to catch up on.”

Scout leaned in a pressed a soft kiss on Demo’s lips.
