I haven't been in the scp fandom for a while but I decided to actually try reading the original pages and some new ones now knowing the animation yt channels are bullshit.

so I watched Okay here's the thing's video on abridged scps and ended up picking up 5031 after being intriged by his description of it...

IT HAD ME IN TEARS, I GOT SO INVESTED IN THE SIX ARMED CHEF CREATURE THAT THE WHOLESOME ENDING HAD ME IN TEARS...

It's peak though.

I'm so fucking mad at the fact that the animation content farms depicted the characters so black and white, Because they always acted like 999 and maybe a few others were the only wholesome ones... because apparently everything had to be super evil, edgy and fucked up somehow.

Soooo from now on, anytime I get a recommendation from one of those content farms I'll go to read the original instead of relying on the soulless retellings.

I re-read Scp-5031, which for a reason that sort of escapes me elates me to no end (perhaps i relate to the thing i lil more than I'd like to admit)(it was also the first genuinely positive in mood and tone piece of media I've beheld today (mind you my "today" is the time between last and next slumber, so at this point ~36 hours) as i came to realise), now i feel like sobbing, i still can't as per usual, but something about it just strikes a chord with my being

It's almost like sometimes it's okay to enjoy things

Stating that is vexingly cathartic and revolting simultaneously

SCP-5031 is the best “modern day retelling” of the minotaur myth full stop. i am right about this.

okay, so, i did just recently reblog a post about it (here) but i really want to talk a little bit more about why scp-5031 - Yet Another Murder Monster is one of my favourite scps of all time. here goes

one of the derisive things i’ve seen people say - about 5031, but also about “not scary” scps in general - is that the scp wiki is a horror anthology and they don’t fit. first of all, i don’t think that’s necessarily right. it started as a horror anthology series, sure, but it’s diversified a bit into just a collection of Weird Things What Break The Laws Of Reality. and (personal spicy take) i think a lot of the “weird” scps are better than the explicit horror ones. gallons of blood does not an scp make. and then i come back to 5031, and here’s the thing: 5031 is a horror story.

sure, it isn’t conventional scp-style horror of Scary Thing That Makes You Insane or Monster That Kills You. the horror, in fact, plays on those assumptions about what an scp is.

simply put, the horror with 5031 is that the Foundation are so used to Murder Monsters that they assume all monsters are the same. the horror is that they tortured a starving child monster that didn’t know any better, shut it in a box, and left it to rot. that this is standard protocol. it happens time and time again. how many “murder monsters” in the Foundation’s care are the same? terrified, alone, desperately lashing out?

the horror in 5031 is that there is Yet Another Murder Monster in the article, but it isn’t 5031.
