Is there somewhere I can read L'luana's backstory? I just realized I know nothing about her and I'm curious :3
UMM well i mean i never made something official BUT THIS IS AS GOOD A PLACE AS ANY?? some stuff is in the short stories and headcanon tags but short story is she died saving someone she cared about and instead of mourning her like a normal person he summoned a primal to bring her back, except it took twenty years and now she’s wandering around being mad at everything |D
tbh i’m pretty sure she’s kinda lore-breaking with tropes i know people aren’t always fond of but long, long version (with stuff i haven’t really written about) behind the read more! & thank you??? i didn’t imagine she would get much attention or curiosity and it makes my heart so happy (づ￣ ³￣)づ
Luana died twenty years before the current timeline (fifteen before the calamity i think?) using a flare & convert combination until it drained her aether and killed her (kinda like they worry about with that thaumaturge brother if i remember right) in order to save her partner, the man she loved at the time. He couldn’t accept it and found - but with how Primals work, more or less created it through hope and crystals - Phoenix to resurrect her, but the cost was her memory of that time and the twenty years it took to do it.
And that Phoenix would basically live inside of her for the rest of her days. He’s another voice in her head and she talks to him aloud and internally. He can even appear as a physical being to her and it’s hard to pretend he isn’t there, nobody else would be able to see or hear him. At first he made things seem… foggy? idk how to put it, because the world changes in twenty years but he was (almost nice) softening the blow before she found the truth about what happened. If something was different (a city, the black shroud) instead of realizing it was actually different, she would think she got lost or he could turn her attention to something else.
In a way she’s tempered, but all he really needs from her is to make people believe in him (if he needed more then there is a tempered au tag! \o/). In order to do that, she doesn’t age and she doesn’t die - not permanently. She is immortal, but that’s not to say she’s invincible. Anything that could kill her before could kill her now but she comes back, and the severity of the death determines how long it takes. Resurrection hurts like a bitch, so the whole ordeal is no spring picnic and she doesn’t go out of her way to play the martyr or anything.
For her he’s sort of like looking at someone through a dirty window, taking on the shape of someone she cares about. Sometimes he’s an elezen, sometimes a roegadyn, not often but at times he’s a miqo’te - it changes. Their relationship is a bit of love and hate and both knowing they need the other. They act with a closeness mostly lovers share but she argues with him and while he never lies to her, he words things in ways to make her angry. While he needs her to more or less be his messenger, she needs him to use magic as her aether is and always will be run dry.
I think, canonly, only Cae and possibly Alannah know about this?? Luana isn’t a big fan of spreading his name lol, but she deals with it in her own way. She knows the man she loved before, and the one that handed her to the Primal, is alive somewhere but she’s never found him and it’s likely that even if she has Phoenix wouldn’t allow her to see him, using his same tricks as before to distract her.
BUT before all of that she was just a normal adventurer with her adventuring pal and no family because mum ran away with her when she was a baby. She remembers most of it now, and SPOILER had an unknown half-brother who in turn had a son when she died ooh what could that be?? i’m kidding that’s Ur’a. \o/ THE END?
