Would you recommend people participate in screenwriting contest? and if so, what are some that you think are legit real and worth trying?

Hello Anon,

I would absolutely participate in screenwriting contests! They are a great way to network and get recognized as a screenwriter. The top competitions are the Nicholl Fellowship and the Austin Competition, but there are lots of local competitions that are pretty accessible to beginning writers as well. This website also has a good list of other competitions you can check out.

Screenwriting contests are also a good way to gauge your ability. If your screenplay doesn’t place in a contest, it’s a good indicator you may need to rewrite your script before sending it to production companies. On the other hand, winning/placing in a screenwriting contest is appealing to producers.
