while this is an intriguing take to incorporate into everything, in the LN he says pretty clearly that he’s the vessel and do you know how that makes a guy feel? and additionally, even in the anime does say that arahabaki literally has no personality, which is blatantly untrue of chuuya, so there’s probably some middle ground between the two extremes of he is arahabaki entirely or he isn’t arahabaki at all. the implications in the LN are that he was a container or vessel.
Well... yeah, I did see that as well.
And honestly, I think that a “middle ground” between him being only a ‘vessel’ and him being ‘actually Arahabaki’ isn’t too far off, because...
That’s kinda how it is. Or rather, how it was.
Because, the way it seems to be is that they used Chuuya, a human child, as the vessel for Arahabaki, a non-human entity, wherein they expected Chuuya to gain Arahabaki’s power, but with nothing else to go with it. So in that sense, Chuuya WAS a vessel, a container. In that sense, he still is.
But what, they planned, however, was not what happened, because it didn’t go according to plan.
Arahabaki certainly appears to have merged with the vessel. At least, the way I see things.
So Chuuya would see himself as knowing that his human body is just a vessel, but also have the few memories of Arahabaki, as well as the power.
I also firmly believe that the anime stating that ‘Arahabaki has no personality and is only power and carnage incarnate’ is untrue not because of Chuuya himself, but because of what Chuuya himself states about Arahabaki;
“Somewhere in that darkness, I floated aimlessly.”
Now, it could be argued that a being can be both only pure destruction and still be able to be aimless, but... ‘aimless’ is an interesting word to give to it then, and given how we see certain similarities between Arahabaki before being turned into Chuuya and Chuuya himself (during Dead Apple, one of the stances he goes into during Corruption is the same, and what I said about Corruption in the post) I’m more tempted to believe that, well-
Chuuya is the combination of the Japanese deity Arahabaki, plus a human body that was basically either an empty shell or made into one when the shock/trauma gave it amnesia, and the years that Chuuya has been alive have shaped him into the person he became.
In that sense, my main point of the post I made still stands; that there is no true separation between them, that Chuuya does not get ‘taken over by’ Arahabaki at any point. Even if the body (vessel) wasn't originally him, or anything, it’s still who he is now - which is essentially exactly what Randou/Rimbaud told him as he lay dying.
