Worldbuilding!
Santa Juliana Files is a world where Eldritch Beings, Fae, and Superheroes all exist. How?
Well. Uh. Still figuring out a lot of it, but the general gist of it is:
God created the Eldritch Beings (official names still pending) as essentially the forces of nature Personified (but like also a bit to the left), and were given the task of regulating the universe (they exist beyond Earth).
The Fae were created and assigned as their servants, to help them in their task of keeping order, in particular in the phases where they were asleep (they operate on a Different Time—days for an Eldritch Being can be anywhere from an actual day to 1000 years per 24 hours).
The world still belonged to the Children of God, though. The Eldritch Beings and the Fae were supposed to work with them to create a beautiful universe. And these humans had powers, too.
How the superpowers were supposed to work isn't known. Some theologians speculate that it may have been intended that certain humans could be gifted powers by a Being to further curate the Earth.
But no one really knows. The Fall happened first, and there were no humans with powers before then. So, some people treat the powers themselves as also the work of the Fall. Others say that it was God's way of equipping humans to protect themselves after the Fall.
It isn't really known, and there are a lot of records that have been lost over the years, so if there is a cycle, a pattern, no one can tell. All that's left is a few obscure Scripture references and a lot of mythology.
