it was nice to be this close, jonathan idly thought. rarely was he ever with anyone like this — even if it was a simple hug out of necessity. he’d a few nurses that fawned over him, trying to win him over, but he brushed them off without a thought. they were just as twisted as he was, bringing no intrigue to jonathan. but, then there was brooklyn. she was a small, untouched gem in the middle of a festering pool. she was a gem jonathan dared to touch, but not taint. he nodded, relieved that she was mostly okay — he hadn’t wanted to go through all of that just to have her hurt in the end. “good. we can’t lose our best and brightest employee,” he said softly, trying to play off the situation. however, there was little he could do to resist her guidance, following her to the first aid station. “there’s really no need for you to go through the trouble. i’m sure it’s nothing too pressing,” he said, unable to focus on anything but the pain. he shrugged off his jacket as he sat, the action difficult and causing him to wince. he didn’t want to appear weak in front of brooklyn, forcing him to grit his teeth as he continued to unbutton his shirt and allowed that to fall away as well. “how is it? i’m sure you could just clean it and put a bandaid — nothing too fussy.”
