Bartholomew’s Log, Giant Forest, Sequoia National Park, California, Former Home of Lt. Col. Scott “X-20″ Bartholomew.
In the summer of 1954, a secret research sub-project sponsored by MKUpsilon was tasked to study the psychological pitfalls (if any) of sealing a solitary, mentally unsound astronaut inside a giant sequoia for several years.
Lt. Col. Scott “X20″ Bartholomew’s enormous hollowed-out redwood "home” was chosen for its ability to best replicate the experience of living inside a haunted log floating in space - complete down to a crude wooden shack constructed at one end of the log to serve as an ersatz airlock and “ghost port.”
The mission was scrubbed after two years of undiluted solitude when Bartholomew befriended and then married a Douglas squirrel which had burrowed its way inside the airlock, in a ceremony attended by so many imaginary friends and nature deities that the National Park Service encouraged valet parking in conjunction with their open-air tram service.
