He doesn’t have to look up to know that it’s Emma. His parabatai rune thrums comfortably and he is, as always, completely aware of her presence, even across the kitchen. He presses his lips together. “Good run? I made pancakes.” The two things aren’t related but he says them in the same breath, as though expelling all the air in his lungs might help ease the tightness he feels at just having her in the same room.
