i want to get this tidbit out somewhere it will reach pensblr! there is a podcast called agent provocateur from the leafs-centric (but NOT leafs-exclusive) network SDPN. it's hosted by adam wylde and NHL agent allan walsh. allan is agent to many, but not least marc-andré fleury.

he said that this year at free agency, he got inquiries from FIVE whole NHL teams asking if flower would rethink his retirement, with one-year deals for good money. turns out flower is 100% committed to retirement, but i thought that was very cute (and of course a commentary on the state of NHL goaltending).

Gustav, on being waived by the Canes: “I was kind of devastated, to be honest,” he said. “It was very hard mentally. It was a tough first month, I would say, and then I said to myself, ‘You’ve got to figure this out and play good again and get another chance.’”

“I was like, ‘I don’t know when I’m going to play again,’” Forsling said. “So, I put in a lot of work in the gym that summer. Summer? It was almost probably nine months, from March to January, basically. I put in a lot of hard work, and I said, ‘I’m going to give this one more shot and just got to stay ready,’ for when the chance came.”

Forsling’s chance finally came the following season. After the shortened training camp in January 2021, Carolina placed him on waivers again.

This time, Florida claimed him.
