"The books didn't cover this" could be fun one for Ronnie and Niall for the kid thing!
“Veronica, I need you to come home please.” His voice was panicked.
She readjusted the phone on her ear. “What’s wrong Ni?”
“Baby H is making a weird noise and I don’t know what’s wrong.” Niall explained. “I’ve fed her, we’ve bathed her, and we have her favorite Baby Mozart cd playing and nothing is working.”
“Michael even tried his little peek-a-boo trick and that didn’t work.” He added.
“Slow down dude.” Ronnie said softly. “What kind of noise is it?”
“I don’t know. The books didn’t cover this.” Niall said worried.
“Should have gotten an audio book about babies then.” Ronnie sassed.
“Veronica! This is serious.” Niall grumbled. “I thought you going back to work for a bit was a good idea but it proved that I can’t handle a baby on me own.”
“You’ve already helped raise the boys. You are great with Lou’s babies. You are a great uncle. You are fine.” Ronnie replied reassuringly. “Now what does it sound like?”
“Honestly it’s like a grunt but a grumble at the same time. I dunno.” He said.
“You fed her?” Ronnie asked trying to think of what it could be.
“Yes we did.” Niall sighed. “I called my mum but she was busy.”
“She isn’t close by either so that wouldn’t have helped.” Ronnie mumbled.
“Ron. Please. I’m trying here. I googled stuff but it just made things worse and now I’m worried I broke her.” He admitted shyly.
“Where is she right now?” Ronnie asked.
“In the rocker thing in the living room with the boys.” Niall said.
“Go over there and put it on speaker phone.” Ronnie said.
“You want me to like put the phone up to her?” Niall asked timidly.
“Not like on her but just close enough so I can hear.” Ronnie sighed.
“Okay, switching now.” Niall said fiddling with his phone. “Can you hear me?”
“Yeah.” Ronnie’s voice echoed through the small room.
“Mom! Dad broke Baby H.” Oli, their son, called out.
“Oliver, really?! What happened to not telling her.” Niall sighed.
“She was gonna find out sooner or later.” Their son replied.
“Mom, we tried to burp her after we fed her but nothing came out.” Michael stepped in. “Dad thought maybe she wanted a bath so we gave her one.”
“Has she pooped yet?” Ronnie asked.
The three boys looked at each other confused. No one had an answer.
“Hello?” Ronnie asked worried about the silence.
“We don’t know.” Niall admitted. “I mean that’s what this could be.”
“Brilliant. You three go poop more than anyone I know and you didn’t think to check to see if the newborn baby had gone to the bathroom after she was fed.” Ronnie replied sarcastically.
“She usually cries when she has to go.” Niall replied embarrassed.
“Or she makes the noise that she’s making right now.” Michael mumbled.
“Sorry Mom! Have fun at work. Tell Uncle Harry we say hi.” Oli called out trying to salvage the situation. “Love you.”
“Love you too. Be careful.” Ronnie called back. “Ni?”
“Yes love?” He said taking the phone off speaker.
“Stop worrying so much. You’re doing a great job.” Ronnie said sweetly.
“Thanks. I’m sorry.” Niall replied.
“It’s fine. Go change her and give the boys some lunch. I’ll be home in a few hours. I love you.” Ronnie said before hanging up the phone.
