the air in nightside always hummed with quiet power — a low, pulsing rhythm only vampires could feel. you were sparring with another trainee, laughing when he missed his mark and nearly tripped on his own feet. victor had been leaning against a rock wall nearby, arms crossed, that signature grin nowhere in sight.
“you think that’s funny?” he called out, his tone light but sharp enough to sting.
you turned, raising a brow. “relax, victor. it’s training, not a duel.”
he pushed off the wall, walking over slow — too slow, like he was trying not to show he was fuming. “uh-huh. didn’t look like training when he almost took your hand just to ‘help you up.’”
you rolled your eyes. “he slipped. and i don’t need you going all territorial again.”
“territorial?” he repeated, pretending to think about it. “nah. just… aware of what’s mine.”
that earned him a chorus of knowing laughs from the others. one of them muttered something like “jealous much?” before victor shot them a glare that could’ve frozen daylight.
he stepped closer, just enough for you to hear the low rasp in his voice. “you’re lucky i like you too much to start something out here.”
you smirked, trying not to let him see how flustered you were. “oh? and what exactly would you start?”
“depends,” he said, brushing a strand of hair from your face, “on whether you keep smiling at other guys like that.”
you elbowed him lightly, but the tension faded — his grin finally returning. he slipped his hand into yours like nothing happened, calling out, “alright, break’s over. let’s show them how it’s really done.”
and just like that, the others groaned while you fought back a smile. because yeah — everyone definitely knew.
