Yo Mayday, Zuke, how did you first meet?

M: Heeey! Hope you guys don’t mind us recording while we run some errands? It’ll be fun, promise! Now, to answer the question...

Z: How we met, yeah?

M: Yeah! It was, like... two... almost three years ago?

Z: Around there. That was, ah... A night. It was that indie showcase. Real small-scale, underground event. We had to sort of keep things quiet to keep NSR off our backs. Both of us were with different acts at the time. For me, I was filling in for a drummer that quit on, like... a week’s notice.

M: And I was gonna rock out onstage with my roommate at the time.

M: Where were we again?..... Right, right, right. I’m backstage, it’s pretty close to time to go, and my roommate who I’ll be GRACIOUS enough not to namedrop isn’t answering my calls, my texts, NOTHING, and she’s nowhere to be seen.

Z: We’re waiting to go up as well, and one of the band members is absolutely chewing the other out for something stupid. I think they were just a little late. I tried to step in, because I thought she was being a bit unfair. I guess I sort of panicked and minced my words, because next thing I know, I’m the one getting yelled at...

M: I remember hearing some pretty crazy screeching. I thought it was just someone rehearsing until I look over to see this poor little dude just getting absolutely WORD-SMACKED.

Z: To continue, I, ah... Okay, this isn’t my PROUDEST moment... But I just sort of took off. I was sort of too panicked to really give a good response, and I wasn’t as good with dealing with it back then. They were being terrible, but I made a commitment I should’ve kept good on.

M: Man, you looked like you were gonna cry.

Z: No comment.

M: Aww. But, yeah, Call time rolls around, and still NOTHING from my roommate. So, what do I do? I go on-stage anyways. And I shred like HELL. No backing music, no vocals, just pure anger on six strings... I remember just feeding into that energy and getting more and more worked up, until a string breaks. I don’t even remember half of what I said when I was up there screaming, but it was definitely more than a bunch of strangers needed to hear.

Z: We’ve got to be quiet here, so sorry if I’m a little hard to hear. But, yeah. I’m outside the venue trying to calm down, and out comes May, yelling something incomprehensible at someone on the other side.

M: Event organizer was kickin’ me out. Condescending, smarmy-ass piece of--

Z: May.

M: Sorry, sorry. Yeah, soo.. I notice Zuke’s just kind of sitting there outside, looking shaken as hell. I remembered seeing him getting chewed out earlier, so I asked him, ‘bad night for you too?’ We actually ended up talking for a bit about our terrible night. I didn’t really wanna to go back home, so I asked if he wanted to just go somewhere. Maybe grab a bite to eat.

Z: That was our first time at Aunty’s, wasn’t it? We spent HOURS in the outdoor seating, long after the place had closed, just sort of... talking. I remember joking that we should just start our own band.

M: I never took it as a joke. But, yeah! We can fill in some more for you guys later, buuuut... I’m pretty sure we’re almost to our stop. See you all later!
