Carolina buckthorn (Frangula caroliniana) has got neither bucks nor thorns, nor is it actually a buckthorn. It is present in the Carolinas though, so at least it has that goin for it. The confusion comes from when it used to be considered a member of the genus Rhamnus (the actual buckthorns). It's a beautiful and elegant native ornamental tree, and the berries are said to be somewhere between poisonous and medicinal, which I'd bet @clinicalherbalist could tell y'all more about :)

This one was down in Seagoville when I was lookin for black hickories and gathered those tasty puffballs. Which reminds me. I should look into cultivatin them lil suckers. They were damn good :9

So I went down to the Post Oak Preserve Trail in Seagoville to look for some black hickory nuts to plant, and I ended up gettin rained on pretty hard. It was cool though cause I found a whole bunch :D

Also apparently a (ludicrously) wet fall in North Texas means abundant wild mushrooms! Lookit all these round boiz :0c

That spiky one is a puff ball. They're hard to misidentify, and are a choice edible. I got me some to take home. Gonna fry em up for a lunchtime snack tomorrow, I'm thinkin :9
