What if there was another Dochas Sidhe around who could break October out of the koi pond much, much earlier? In this timeline, Toby found herself freed from the pond in a year and a day by a strange, secretive young man with an unmistakable family resemblance.
Everything unfolded from there.
Update on dental visit: it went well! I often am not completely numb, but I think they used different stuff than I'm used to, so I legit didn't feel like 95% of the stuff I'm not supposed to feel?? Hell yeah.
Also, had anxiety at the beginning, but the doc called someone in to hold my hand, and also double checked my pronouns when doing so, so extra hell yeah.
that's good! :)
What a beautiful wedding! The assassins really livened it up!
And, my incorrect prediction:
for me from Self-Identity Issues Flash Exchange, contains spoilers for the entire series to date:

Toby stands in her mother’s spider-silk dress, and tries to smile. “That’s me.”
Your post about Simon still defaulting to transformation spells ( amazing one btw) made me actually think something over: in Tobyverse, it's long since established that transformations are water magic thing. Yet Simon picked them up from Eira, his Daoine progenitor. Just like Eira, eldest daughter of the Summer Queen, is deeply associated with winter, Maeve s season. And Eira is also associated with roses, which we also learn are Maeve's thing... I don't know 1/2
what that could mean, but even October in ''A Killing Frost'' voices confusion over how wintery Eira is for daughter of Titania, especially her oldest and most beloved, and night-haunts, children of Maeve, were willing to help Eira fake her death, despite her deep hatred for unseelie fae, for unspecified bribe. Maybe there is going to be another revelation of strange dynamics between the Three, and Luidaeg s family mess?
Your implication that Eira might secretly be Maeve's daughter rather than Titania's is interesting, but...I don't buy it. That would leave us...not without any major Titania-aligned Firstborns, we have Amphitrite and Acacia, but they're not in the same class in terms of character importance, you know? We need symmetricality, with the Luidaeg and Amandine.
(Man I hope we get to meet the Tuatha de Danaan and Tylweth Tyg Firstborns someday. And at least one of the Cait Sidhe... I'm curious to see how Toby gets along with an Oberon-aligned First who isn't her own mother?)
I also, tbh, just hope this theory isn't true, because it'd be yet another instance of a "Character X has secretly been Character/Role Y the whole time!" plot twist that I'm getting kind of tired of. Eira, Quentin, Walther, Oberon...inevitably Stacy and Marcia... ma'am, pls, I need more variety....
Unless the explanation for Simon's skill with transformation magic is that he's secretly been Sylvester's Fetch this whole time; that theory, I'm willing to entertain, though I don't really buy it.
The Bakers Drabble (Incryptid)
Martin Baker was a big guy, slow and patient. He had a nasty scar across his face, but that was nothing next to the scars hidden by his sweater. He plodded down the badly lit hallway in no particular hurry. Undeath (or more accurately re-living) seemed to have taken the urgency out of him. Drew, his teenage son had been hiding in his room with the lights off all weekend, but that was entirely natural and healthy behavior for a teenage bogeyman. Probably. If nothing else Drew's life would involve a lot of hiding and being silent. Best to get the practice in now in the relative safety of his adopted parents' home. Martin rapped on the door, twice, carefully. Long ago he'd learned to be careful not to misjudge the strength of his fists. He heard the closet door open and a soft resentful mutter. "What was that? You've got to remember your parents are hard of hearing." Pretty much everyone was, compared to bogeymen. "I said, I was sleeping, Dad." Drew pulled open the door a crack, just enough for the dim hall light to make a stripe down his face. "That's fine." Martin nodded. "I thought you might want to do us a favor - and you will be sure to write that down, won't you? When you're an adult you're going to need to keep track of favors." The bogeymen he'd talked to had been very clear about that. Drew scowled and grimaced like he was sucking a lemon but he nodded. "You didn't need to tell me that. I mean- I've been doing it." Martin could hear him shuffle his feet self-consciously. "Good. Now, your cousins are coming over so you can babysit." He watched his son's face turn to dismay. "Also they can teach you some more self defense." "Oh. good." Drew looked like he'd prefer a root canal now and Martin recalled the last time the cousins had practiced self defense together. There had been traps involved. And knives. The Prices went into survival in a big way. It had probably been humiliating for a teenager to lose the game of hide and seek to his little cousins. Especially when he wound up dangling from a treetop snare by one ankle. But it was the best training he was likely to get, aside from Angela's shooting lessons.
