"I had a rough day and you're my bartender at the bar I go to for happy hour every week"
“Come here often?”
The voice whose eyes later met her own almost caught her off if she hadn’t already sought the sarcasm dripping from his lips. A golden glint reflected against his eyes from the florescents and she rolled her own.
“I’ll take my usual.” Katara’s voice was almost hoarse, scratchy as she eyed him and the way his hands slid along the glass he’d been cleaning. She caught a smirk before he’d turned around.
“You know, I almost want to say you’re using me for Happy Hour, but I also kind of don’t care.” Amusement — He was being smug. But, when it hadn’t elicited a response from her, he turned again with a raised brow. “Rough day? You’re usually half way through a story by now.”
Her lips tilted, though she still kept her gaze low. The bar was more crowded than usual, but to be fair it was a holiday weekend. “I uh — I had to break off my engagement.”
“Woah.” Out of the corner of her eye she watched him set down another glass before his hands almost slapped against the counter, pulling her attention to his face, then. “You want something stronger than that?” He asked, and she almost smiled. Almost. But he didn’t pry, and she was grateful.
“C’mon.”
“What?” Her voice was low, at first and she studied him as he waved her away from the bar and into the crowd. “Where are we going?”
He looked back at her and grabbed her hand and after a beat they stopped in front of a booth. “You know, it’s been a few months since you’ve been coming in and I don’t even know your name?”
Their eyes met. “You never asked.”
“Well, I’m asking now. Oh, and I hope you’re hungry becasue the wings are on me.”
Katara had to fight the way her cheeks began to hurt, and she forced herself to let it happen. “Katara.”
“What?” he asked.
“That’s my name — Katara.”
Now it was his turn for his lips to curve. “I’m Zuko, the guy who’s been serving you way, way too much alcohol over the last few months.” He laughed, then. “For the record, I haven’t actually minded.”
Sorry anon for replying this way, but I deleted your question by mistake. 😅

FOOLISH // a Zutara thread with @honxrable
( now — present — senior year of college )
One would figure that after three years of walking the same campus over and over again, memories would start to blend together. The colors would seep into one another and everything would appear the same. One conjugal mix of shit.
The same memories, the same buildings, the same faces.
One thing was for sure — although things were ever-changing, and always moving, there would still bee the same god damned memories that would eventually lead to the climax. In the end, everything always came back together in some way — it’s just up to you to figure out how it all ends.
That’s why now, rounding the corner into her first class of the semester, one face in particular made vomit actually rise into her throat.
Katara was silent, at first, until she finally found her voice. “Zuko?” He stood behind the teachers’ desk, his back to her until her voice penetrated the air and she watched as the hand he held against the chalk board became frozen.
“What are you doing here?” she asked. And, when he turned his head slightly, he met her eyes.
‘ I’m the new student teacher. ‘
( then / past / summer before freshman year of college )
The very beginning
‘ You’re not from here, are you? ‘
The voice came from behind her, the barista before her still pestering her for her order. She waved them off before turning and stepping aside to allow someone else to go while she searched for the human whose voice she could still feel on the back of her neck.
‘ Looking for me? ‘
When she finds his eyes, she stops. He’s behind her in line before stepping beside her, his glasses sliding just slightly down his nose before he pushes them back. A slanted grin fits his lips and it spreads to her own as she speaks.
“Yeah, um, hi?” she begins, a brow arching as she crosses her arms. She tries not to come across as passive.
She wants to ask how he knows she’s not from here, but she thinks better of it. Of course he knows, her accent gives her away when she forgets to pretend to be American. She’s learned quickly that if you’re not American, people suddenly feel the need to ask far too many personal questions. So, she pretends, but decides against it with this stranger.
“Sorry, yes — I’m Katara. I actually just moved here a couple of days ago, so I don’t exactly know... anything at all about this place, actually.”
His eyes seem to shimmer as if showing random strangers around was his passion. Which, to her, unsurprisingly, was exactly what he had offered. Normally she’d decline, but, something about him intrigued her.
“Should I trust you, American boy?”
‘ Don’t you want to know my name before you get into a car with me? ‘
She smirks while she thinks, drawing a lip between her teeth. “Do you have a name?”
He rolls his eyes before saying, “I’m Zuko.”
hi! i'm referencing a post you did a while ago which said you wish katara didn't get into a relationship so quickly and i want to say i 100% agree. i wish katara ended up with no one at the season three finale (even zuko) because i feel that they're so young and having a stable, like relationship requires maturity. i think the comics should have been dedicated to telling the adventures of the gaang after the war as well as developing the relationships as the characters grow older.
Yeah, I feel like the comics would have been a lot better without all the weird relationship stuff between Aang and Katara. Even if it had been Katara with Zuko, it would have been weird and too soon. she needed to be alone and be independent. I feel like she wasn’t able to fully do that while following Aang all over the world.
I think the comics should have yes, focused on each individual working on themselves while traveling and helping rebuild the world. I think the continuation would have been much, much better if it had taken that path.
what are some of your favorite fanfictions cus I am trying to read some new ones :/

Zutara Month — Day 13: Silent Night.
This prompt is part of the second chapter from my fanfiction called The Firefly Lantern Project. It takes place the months / year(s) following the war. Katara stays to heal Zuko, and he wants to show her his appreciation for everything that she has done.
FF.net // The Firefly Lantern Project
A moonlit halo surrounds her; a fire flied light consumes. Her laugh is but a gentle cadence silkened through the wind and in that moment, he knows it was worth it. It was all worth it. Post war Zutara. Rated M.
You’re not fine,” she replied, crossing her arms against her chest. He watched her fingers tap idly against her elbows before she stood back up, a rumbling crack of thunder and light rippling across the sky as she did so and he watched her jump, a hand going to her belly as she looked away.
“Are you?” The words fell passed his lips in a question, his eyes holding a deeper kind of regret in his own belly as his chest ached. Another streak flashes across the sky and her eyes sealed shut, then, and he wanted to reach out to her, but she backed away instead. “Do you get them too?”
Her eyes opened slowly, peering down upon him through long lashes that brushed her dampened cheeks. It wasn’t until then, with the light from the storm streaking in through shutters that he even noticed she had been crying. “Do I get what?” Her voice was low, and quiet yet he could hear the shakiness that he knew she so desperately tried to hide.
“The nightmares. I get them too.”
