The Google search engine is by far the most popular search engine in the world and has billions of searches per day and trillions per year. Goggle returns up to 40,000 searches every second and this number keeps growing.The company was first founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Segey Brin in California. It is now the 2nd most valuable brand in the world, sitting at $82.5B (behind Apple at $154.1B) on the Forbes world’s most valuable brands list.
As shown above, Google’s home page is extremely simple, with only two buttons, an input field bar, and their world famous logo. The simplicity of this homepage makes it easy for all age groups to use as there is not much else you can do besides search. The Google logo is famous for its Google Doodles. Google Doodles are a temporary change to the logo, they are often very artistic and themed to an event that may be happening (such as the Olympics), past Google Doodles can be found here. The “I’m Feeling Lucky” button takes users straight to the most popular search result for the entered text. This bypasses the search page completely. Once the user has entered their search they are taken to the ‘search page’ where there are many other search options. The user is presented with 7 different search options: All, Images, Maps, Videos, News, Shopping, and Books. These features let the user to refine their searches down to specifics. The ‘All’ page will often give examples of Videos or Images within the page if it is a search query often typed in Google Images or Videos. Often the page will have a definition of the searched term at the very top of the page which gives the user quick access.
The search page itself is very basic, this makes it easy to use and look sleek at the same time. The Settings and Tools tab lets the user to refine their search even more and even add some privacy functions for families. In the latter years, google has integrated their Google accounts. Google accounts let users traverse all the websites that are owned by google (such as Youtube and Google+) and organise them suitable to the user’s needs. Having one account for all these sites is again keeping things simple, which is Google’s trademark and it is working well for them. Google’s integration with their other apps, lightening fast search results, and simplistic design make it the perfect search engine.
