Hell Is A Place On Earth, by Seaside Caves

I am always writing songs.

I mostly write when dramatic events take place in my life and I am overcome by intense emotions. These emotions become melodies and I pick up an acoustic guitar or sit at the piano and let them find me. Then I just sing what I am feeling or thinking about and the lyrics come. I like to record my ideas as quickly as possible- I don't spend too much time perfecting the tracks during this stage. My main concern is getting the emotion down on tape, and the rest follows from there. I’ll lay down several tracks of keyboards, guitar, bass, drum machine, vocals etc. Whatever might help evoke what I am experiencing.

When I am done with the recordings I send them off to the band. Some songs they love and some never get mentioned again. They take my ideas and expand on them, sharing their emotions, and something new bursts forth. We rehearse the songs and perform them at shows, and when they are ready, we take the ones we like the most and go into the studio and record them- this time concentrating more on the tones and atmosphere. Some of these still get passed on when choosing songs for a record.

This collection is predominantly made up of songs I've written and recorded that we have never played as a band. Perhaps one day we will. The song "Jets" is a demo that turned into the song "Summer", which will be on our new studio record. There are also a few instrumental pieces by Matt, James and Ryan- these kinds of pieces we use as interludes, live and on record.
