Who would have thought Tsunami, Great Dragonet of Destiny, next in line for the SeaWing throne, and Head of the Jade Academy, had a partner already? Most thought that she had a Talon of Peace named Riptide. The two definitely had a "thing", but it was too awkward to confirm it. The fact that Tsunami also openly confirmed that she did in fact have a mate made Pyrrhian dragons practically go nuts.
You and Tsunami were quite an odd couple, to be frank. You, (Y/n), actually met Tsunami during the attack of the Summer Palace. While the dragonets escaped, you were fighting a SkyWing who slashed your throat defending it. It wasn't fatal, unless you didn't get immediate medical attention. Thankfully, Tsunami was close by and saved you, and actually took you along to the Rainforest Kingdom. There, you got the medical treatment you needed from the RainWings. Unfortunately, the SkyWing's claws tore your vocal cords and left you a mute bearing scar. It was a good thing you still knew aquatic, even though it can only understood by SeaWings. Tsunami only understood very simple aquatic due to lessons with Riptide. But gradually she learned more as she spent more time with you. It turned out that she could also read your moods like she would with Glory. It really depended on what shade of blue. Sky blue meant happy. Grey-blue meant sad. Dark navy blue meant angry. And those were the basics.
And really your friendship grew from there until it turned into fondness. If a dragon were to ask Tsunami just what she saw in you, that dragon would be verbally (and physically if it escalated to that point) fight that dragon. "Well what isn't to like?" she would argue. "(Y/n) may be quiet, but they can fight! (And can be just as sarcastic as Glory.) But is very sweet and charming. "They are also very..." She may stop to find the right words. "Amazing. Where in Pyrrhia are you going to find those kind of SeaWing scales? Ya know, the ones that can change into any shade of the ocean? Yeah, that's right, only on my partner! No other SeaWing has such a gorgeous face or form either, or with bright (e/c) eyes that can burn like SkyWing fire." The dragon might loose Tsunami as she wonders back to her mate. But don't think she's done yet as she'll add a warning to them. "But if you have a problem with how they look or which tribe they came from or even their scars, then you can talk to me about it, buddy. Because they're wonderful just the way they are."
It soon became a more public relationship when Tsunami openly asked you to be her lover when the war was finally over and plans of starting a school was discussed amongst the dragonets of destiny. "Me and (Y/n) are dating now," she declared during their meeting, almost smugly. "Really?" Glory – Queen Glory – said unamused. "It's been kinda obvious." "Yeah," Clay said. "Even I noticed. You've become a lot more... affectionate." "Oh yes, you two are so cute together," Sunny gushed. "I would have never thought the day would come," Starflight said in a low tone. Tsunami wanted to bat at him for his remark, but he was already blind and that was bad enough she supposed. There went the glory of that moment though... But soon will come a test that would really see the strength of your bond.

After the Jade Academy was finally open and the students came, the dragonets thought that world changing prophecies would not begin again. Unfortunately, it didn't quite seem they could get a break as they dealt with an explosion in one of their classrooms that resulted in several student casualties, loosing some students as they ran away, and soon later came the enormous Darkstalker. He was becoming a bad influence on the other students and Tsunami didn't like it as his affect soon infected the older dragons as well, such as her beloved. They saw what Darkstalker could do and eagerly wanted to be healed again, just like Flame. But when (Y/n) discussed this with Tsunami, it didn't really go well. "No," she said sternly. "But Tsunami," (Y/n) flashed, scales a excited shade of turquoise and sky blue. "He can heal me! I could get my voice back." "I don't want that NightWing putting any spells on you," Tsunami said. "You know how much I hate big NightWings." (Y/n) stamped their foot. "You don't know what it's like to be silenced or look kinda funny." Stormy clouds of dark blue washed over the bright greens in growing anger. "No I don't, but actions sometimes speak louder than words, as Starflight once said one time I think," Tsunami defends. "I've lived with a funny looking SandWing and I think you look amazing just the way you are." "But you don't understand," (Y/n) gave a sad, defeated sound. Scales were still an angry dark but with a stripe of grey-blue going through it like a lightning bolt. "No one's ever liked hybrids and I can't talk to other dragons anymore. No one listens to me because I have no words to be heard." The complexity of (Y/n)'s flashing stripes was increasing and were getting faster, making it hard for Tsunami to follow their conversation. "Look, (Y/n)," tried Tsunami calmly. "We are losing students left and right with this guy. I'm afraid of losing Anemone to him as well. Her soul could be in danger of changing. And now I'm afraid of possibly losing you to him too. All of his gift giving seems too easy, it's suspicious." "Or maybe he's just being nice," offered (Y/n) pointedly before leaving with a lash of their tail, the three largest stripes flashing a "squid-brain." before going dark. *—–🐚—–*
The large NightWing sat back on his haunches, his claws in a sort of thinking position.
"Hmmm," he hummed. "I could easily heal you, dear (Y/n). But Tsunami would greatly disapprove of it." 'I know you can read my mind, but that's not the point,' you thought out to him, your stripes flickering absentmindedly with the words in your head. 'This is my decision, not her's.' But doing this behind her back was starting to built frustration and guilt, your scales a storm of near black-blue, dark purple lacing your belly scales. "Alright so be it," Darkstalker shrugs. "All I need is an item to apply the enchantment onto. Like... That sparkly decoration." He points a huge claw at your head. You tilt your head, the silver chain that connects to your left horn and ear gave a little chime, the sapphire earring bumping against your cheek. It was a beautiful gift from Tsunami for your first month anniversary, a piece of the various pieces of treasure her mother gave her generously. A stripe of seaweed green rippled across your scales. 'I...,' you thought uncertainty, head filled with worry and guilt and possibly scenarios where Tsunami yells at you and eventually leaves you for making the decision. "Please restrain your thoughts," Darkstalker said, annoyed. "I can still see into them and I can assure you that I don't see any futures where she does anything. Yup. Everything is flowing wonderfully in your future. Yup yup. Can we proceed?" After calming your (apparently) loud head, you took in a deep breath and a small step forward. Darkstalker grinned. "No-!" Just as the word formed in your mind, there was a sudden mix of voices that bombarded the room. An outside voice had intervened. You and Darkstalker looked and saw that Tsunami had charged during your session. Her eyes were blue fire, snout snarling, and gills pulsing. Princess Tsunami of the SeaWings, was angry. She stood in front of you, wings flaring as she shielded you away from the ancient dragon. "If you breathe one more word towards them, Darkstalker, I will maul you to pieces. Fancy magic invulnerability or not!" Tsunami glowered, teeth bared. By the moons, she was even scaring you. She turned her head towards you, face and eyes immediately softening. The only dragon on the entire continent that could subdue Tsunami's violent rage was you.
"Did he do anything to you?" You shake your head. "Good," she said, sounding relieved. Tsunami glared back at Darkstalker. "You. Get out." He gave another shrug (looking quite annoyed) and slithered away elsewhere.
You hung your head, feeling shameful.
"I'm sorry," you apologize, waiting until Tsunami faced you to see your sad colors. "I wasn't going to let him enchant me anyway. You mean too much to me to actually change." "I'm just glad you’re alright," said Tsunami. "Angry, but glad." She hugs you close with her wings, her face buried in your neck. Content as well, you nuzzle her back. The stripes on your side glowed, a talon tapping her chest. Tsunami snorted. "I think I'm the one protecting you." You gave her a look. "Don't give me that. You look like Glory," she told you, earning a snicker.
The SeaWing Queen was in absolute grief after hearing the news of her dead husband. Not even Moray's obsessive counseling could lift it the slightest bit. So, much to Moray's displeasure, she could think of the only SeaWing who possibly lift her queens spirits: (Y/n).
The (blue/green) SeaWing is a talented and favored editor. He even makes slight changes to the scrolls to make them better. And the Queen even allows it! For she likes the changes he makes. (Y/n) is paid well, but prefers just spending time with Queen Coral, spending more time with her than with Whirlpool. (Which is extremely satisfying.) And (Y/n) loves Queen Coral more than just a loyal servant.
~(••)~
'Uh. Moray! Is this necessary? Especially at this time?!'
The grey SeaWing ignored your flurry of flashes and signs as she literally dragged you by your tail to... somewhere! You were just doing your normal routine of editing of the Queen's new tragic tale: The Attack Of The Summer Palace, when Moray burst into your office and drags you off without you having any saying.
Becoming irritated by the lack of answers, you snatched back your tail (slightly shamed for being so easily captured) and confronted her. "MORAY!" you practically roared her name through the water. 'What is the meaning of this?!' 'No time. Need to get you to the Queen,' she flashes back, slacking her jaw. You swam out of reach before Moray could have a possible grab at you again. 'What is going on?' you ask. The pale SeaWing hesitated, blank eyes darting to spot any onlookers. 'You know Queen Coral is taking Gill's death very hard and it doesn't help that our Summer Palace is in ruins. I just want Her Majesty to be happy,' she explains. 'And you are the only one to do so.' You float there for a second, almost as though your brain left in an air bubble. 'Me?' you point at yourself after some seconds ticked by. 'Tragic things have happened lately, but I hardly think I can lift any spirits.' Moray flashed the stripe on her wings. 'Silence. Your lying to yourself. I know you love the Queen.' 'What?!' The small stripe on your snout flashed bright in question. Your gills whooshed a billow of embarrassed bubbles. Moray drifts behind you, pushing you through the coral hallways and towards the Queen's quarters. 'Try,' she simply flashed before darting away down the hall.
You looked at the doors, following each carved wave and dolphin, each sapphire and emerald imbedded in the blue tinted marble. Gathering your courage, you stretched out a balled up talon and knocked three times. There was a wait of about two minutes, but felt like an eternity. The door then cracked open, the face of Queen Coral. Your heart began to race already. '(Y/n)?' she asked as she opened the door more. 'Yes,' you flashed simple and bright. You’re as smooth as shark skin. 'I came to speak with you.' 'Of course, come in.' Queen Coral paddled away from the door to let you in. You obliged, coming inside her room.
It was vast with space, decorated with various seashells plastered to the walls, branches of colorful coral growing out of the floor in graceful curves around two seaweed beds (one larger than the other), webbed claw prints of jade carved into the floor, the room colored in various blues and pinks.
Anemone was in there (of course), playing with Auklet. They were playing with carved wooden sea creatures. The princess' looked up from their play when you swam inside. Anemone flashed a hello. Little Auklet shot up, darting over like a minnow, flashing her greetings as well as she barreled into you. The impact made you cough in surprise but it didn't hurt. Queen Coral came over, scolding her daughter and shooing her away back to Anemone. 'Spunky,' you comment. 'Like a certain daughter,' the queen smiled. 'Now what was it that you wanted to speak with me for?' It felt as though you didn't have gills as your breath caught in your throat. 'I'm here to say...,' you began slowly. Queen Coral waited patiently though for you to finish. You cast a glance at the two girls. Thankfully they seemed distracted enough. 'I have a... love for you. I love you more than my scrolls. And I will follow you through this war and I would gladly give up my job as an editor to fight by your side. Queen Coral, you are indeed the best queen in all of Pyrrhia.' You boldly grab Queen Coral's blue talons into yours. 'I know you are still mourning for Gill. He was a good husband and general, but he's gone like so many other good Seawings. But, will you have the honor of being remarried to me?' The queen looked at you with wide green eyes, her face shocked. It then shifted to thought, which made your heart sink, thinking she will decline your offer that meant so much to you. Also you didn't want that disgusting Whirlpool coming into the royal line. It would be a nightmare for him to be king! '(Y/n), you are one of my closest and most trusted friends,' she said. 'And you sound much like Gill... I think it's about time I move on. I have three daughters to remind me of him. So, I would be honored to marry you.'
That was the moment that became your most favorite. The moment you confessed your love to her in her quarters, your webbed talons twined in Queen Coral's.
Anemone's shocked face.
Auklet didn't understand just yet but was beaming at the Anemone's funny face.
Chaos. Dragons screaming. Burnt bodies everywhere. Clear water stained black. Fire everywhere.
The burnt body of your dead friends made your stomach lurch. You didn't even try to make an escape. The entrance to the tunnel was crowded, dragons shoved, wings and tails flailed about as they desperately tried to get away from the flames and chaos.
You stayed huddled in a room on second floor, praying for your mate to find you. But you knew Shark was in the Deep Palace, yet your hopes lifted when you realize that he will immediately come to deal with the attacking SkyWings and MudWings. Smoke burned your eyes and gills, making you tear up slightly and cough. You can't stay here long... The options were either to hurdle into the cramped tunnel or up to the hole in the vegetation roof where flaming logs fell, and where a sky full of SkyWings and MudWings wait.
Weighing out your options, you chose to suck it up and fight your way out. You dodged a flaming log sharply as you flew towards the sky. The flames heat brushed your (blue/green) scales, but you continued to wing it. You heard the log splintering crash to the ground, followed by a scream of agony. It made you flinch and only made you fly faster. The SkyWings and MudWings were surprised as you shot out from the Summer Palace, the SkyWings quickly confront you. You clawed their faces and knocked them out of the sky with your powerful tail. There were other SeaWings fighting with the invaders, appearing that the attackers numbers began to dwindle.
Claws slammed into your back, ripping at your scales, sending bright pain bursting into your body. You roar in fury and pain, whirling around to attack. The MudWing ducked under your fishhook claws and head budded your belly. The air was knocked out of you, almost making you forget to beat your wings. The MudWing then grabbed your neck and squeezed, choking you. You gasped for air and clawed at his arm as your vision blurred and darkened. He just tighten his grip, growling. Suddenly, his grip vanished with a shriek. Your eyes adjusted as air filled your lungs once again. Commander Shark had tackled the MudWing off you and was now attempting to kill him. The MudWing fought back fiercely but had his belly scales shredded by Shark's claws, and Shark took one of his wings and dislocated it, letting him drop into the sea below.
You flung yourself at Shark, wrapping your arms around his neck. "Shark! My moons, your safe!"
"I was worried about you being safe!" Shark snapped, grasping your shoulders. You winced at his touch, your back still bled and throbbed in pain. He saw this, going behind you and examined your back scales, frowning at the amount of blood. "Go to the Deep Palace, (Y/n). Get a healer for your back." He ordered you as gentle as he could, his blank eyes staying on the gouges.
You looked over your shoulder in disbelief. "What?" you demanded, almost hitting Shark with your wings as you whirled around. "I'm staying here and fighting!"
"I don't want you to get killed!" he roars, shoving you sharply towards the blue water below. "I... I don't to loose you." His tone softened to a mumble.
You frowned, taking his talons into his.
"I'll go, just so that you don't worry too much about me," you told him. "But please, please, please come back in one piece!" (Not that you didn’t underestimate the commander.)
Shark smiled ever so slightly, showing his sincerity by nuzzling your head against his. You pulled away and dove through the air and into the safety of the waters depths, feeling Shark's white gaze watch you. You swam to a current, got tugged along with it. The battle above you was muffled and almost soundless. The dragons were blurred and mushed together in almost unrecognizable globs. But you can still see Shark's pale coloring dart through the globs as you were pushed further and further away, making it difficult for you to see him anymore. You sent your prayers of safety as you couldn't see him anymore.
Here is the question that most would ask as they catch wind of the rather strange endeavor: How did the two of you even meet?
Oh, he just popped your sorry, fishy butt into his throne room without your consent of course.
One day you were just paddling along the various coral reefs of the Deep Palace, working as a gardener and using small amounts of your animus magic to make them grow bright and magnificent, the next you were suddenly "summoned" into a grand throne room you didn't recognize at all, still dripping wet. In the room were two other SeaWings, a SandWing, and a NightWing who was practically stone than dragon.
And in front of you sat the largest dragon you've seen in all of your years. He was another NightWing, one that obviously dwarfed the other in the room. Animus power can be practically radiating off of him. Panic rose in you then, eyes darting around to find an item to enchant. A tiny pebble had to suffice as you discreetly snatched it into your webbed claws and put an enchantment upon it.
'Take me back to the Deep Palace,' you commanded. But, you stayed in the same room with the same dragons. It only made your panic and fear rise.
The tingle in your claws was still there but why would you still be here?! Your magic worked fine all the time, why did it seem to fail you in this moment?!
The giant NightWing looked upon you in a strange mix of curiosity and anger. You noticed that the SandWing was gone from the room, wishing you could have gone with her. Maybe you were too comfortable with your magic and didn’t have the skills to teleport away like she. Well, you never really did have a fighter’s spirit, didn’t like to fight that much. That’s why you became a gardener, to stay out of the fight and do something you loved. It sounded quite selfish but at least you’re alive and hidden still.
Until now anyway.
A quarrel of excitement started and ended quickly. Then, the other animus’ were gone, having been teleported away yet you were left behind. The giant NightWing got off his throne and to your level.
“Who are you?” he asked, though it more seemed as though he growled the question. There was hate in his dark eyes. Why did this NightWing hate you?
“I’m (Y/n),” you told him, slightly quavering. “And you are?”
“Darkstalker. King Darkstalker.”
Something clicked in your mind.
“You were best friends with Fathom a really long time ago?” you asked.
A flash of rage crossed the king’s face. “How do you know that?”
You cowered at his wraith. “Stories that have been passed down in my family. My aunt and mother heard it from my grandfather, who was told by his great-great-great grandmother Clearpool.”
“Oh bother, Fathom and Indigo actually coupled. Hmmm.” Darkstalker mumbled to himself before shifting his attention back towards you. “That’s why you’re here. Because you’re so-on great grandfather was Fathom himself, a brilliant yet treacherous animus. I can see the resemblance between the two of you now.”
Darkstalker used a large talon to lift your chin and move your face at different angles as he inspected you like one of those strange fish from the most darkest waters of the ocean.
“Ah yes, you have his snout,” he laughed.
Suddenly the hateful coldness returned and he released your face with distaste. “But I still haven’t forgiven him for what he has done to me so I will not trust you, SeaWing.”
The SeaWing pride that was buried deep then came out as a roar as you finally snapped, since Darkstalker had the absolute audacity to speak of your much deceased grand elder in such a way.
“I do remember a quote that Fathom said, having been passed down for generations, the original words that came from his mouth that: “There are dragons that do bad things. But maybe that doesn't make them all bad. Maybe they can also do good things. Maybe some of those bad things are just mistakes." And I believe that he was talking about you, Darkstalker,” you yell at the NightWing king. “He never hated you! Quite the opposite: he loved you. Why do you hate him so much if he’d forgiven you for your actions?”
“Because you don’t understand how it feels to be betrayed by you’re closest friend, SeaWing!” Darkstalker flared his ginormous wings as he snarled, looming over you as an overbearing night sky of death.
You flash your stripes in response but stood your ground. “Then let me show you that my family is not bad as it seems. Please.”
Smoke puffed from Darkstalker’s nostrils in huffs of anger. He inhaled slowly, then hissed a calming breathe as he glared down at you.
“Maybe,” the NightWing said tightly. Then came the terms and agreements. “But you are not to be out of my sight nor do any spells without my permission.”
“I understand.” You gulped, throat becoming painfully dry.
Darkstalker walked to the throne room entrance, nudging you along to follow with his tail. “Good. I hope you do not mind taking Fathom’s old room, as it is more accommodated for a SeaWing.”
Living within the NightWing castle was not that bad. It had very grand architecture, obviously of NightWing design, of high ceilings and black marble walling and elegantly designed pillars. The room that Darkstalker showed you was just as stupendous as the rest of it.
As you looked around, observing the dusty pillows and shelves and dry indoor pool, having sneezed more than once at its dryness but can tell that the drafter did at least consider (old) SeaWing architecture. Darkstalker watched you with a keen eye, only drawing his attention to his twisted metal crown to fiddle with it out of restlessness.
“This is fantastic,” you comment, prattling over to a side room, this one being a sleeping chamber with another large pile of rotting, ornate pillows and decorated with sea glass imbedded walls. A nearby window let the viewer gaze at the cliff side city and the ocean beyond. “Definitely beats my place in the Sea Kingdom.”
It made you think back to your coral and stone home, simple yet cozy, with tiny fish always swimming about the structural organisms you raised. Keeping the parrotfish away from it was always a chore.
“You don’t have to worry about fish anymore,” Darkstalker pipes in, bored.
You shot him a sharp glare. “If you’re going to have me under your claws, can I at least have my guppy brain conversations to myself?”
The NightWing gave a smirk in return. “How else will I know when you will play a trick on me?”
“Playing any kind of prank or traumatic betrayal isn’t my style, Darkstalker,” you tell him. “I’m just an ordinary coral gardener who loves his honest work.”
“Ah. Except for the animus part, hello?” Darkstalker taunts. “You have the power to grow mountains of coral if you wish, but you just make them pretty displays.”
“Not everyone wants to be crazy tyrants,” you said.
“Hmph. You better mean crazy as in, “Crazy handsome, powerful and cool!” and totally sane, Seawing,” he pouts. Pouts. How hilarious.
“So Mr. Crazy, are you going to watch me clean up this room or will you be doing other kingly business?” you asked him.
Darkstalker furrowed his brow. “I suppose I can leave you alone for such a simple task,” he mused. “But before I forget, take this as a house warming gift.”
The giant NightWing presented a silver wrist band with an aquamarine gemstone set in the middle. It had ornate and intricate designs carved into the metal, images of curling seaweed, showing visible currents, and various sea life decorating it.
You gasped as you took it. “This is very beautiful, Darkstalker. I can’t possibly take it...“
“No no no. I insist,” he tuts, putting it around your left wrist himself. The metal gleamed brilliantly, even in the low light. “To symbolize our new friendship. To new beginnings.”
Darkstalker finally stood back up and went towards the gaping doorway, looking over his shoulder to tell you, “Feel free to use your magic to clean this place. It’ll be quicker after all.”
Of course Darkstalker wouldn’t leave a SeaWing running around his palace without at least some precautions. He could already sense his usage of his powers, so that was easy enough even though Darkstalker barely felt anything from him. The gift he gave him was more of a lie detector: letting Darkstalker know when he is lying (especially during face to face conversations) if this descendant of Fathom caught his treacherous genes, like with tricky Turtle who was now locked away in his dungeon having been revoked his magical abilities.
Darkstalker had lots of things to do and having a clueless SeaWing around will only make his headaches better or worse, who knows.
However as the days flew past, when he wasn’t trying to play ambassador with all of Pyhrria and trying to fix the remnants of his tribe, Darkstalker would conversante with the (green/blue) SeaWing, often glancing at the wrist band when they did. Yet it did nothing as he would tell Darkstalker about the Deep Palace, of his work and friends and how awesome it was when Queen Coral complimented on the gardens.
Listening to him, (Y/n), was oddly relaxing and the animus would often find himself drifting on the new pillows. At least he wasn’t a worry wort like Fathom, who would only talk about the bad while (Y/n) spoke of the good. Quite refreshing actually for the change of character, as all of the modern SeaWings Darkstalker has thus encountered were all quite violent to say the least.
A splash of water jolted him awake. (Y/n) looked up at him with a mixture of confusion and worry.
“Are you okay?” he asked. “I thought you were going to slip into the pool and drown if you’d dozed off again.”
Darkstalker managed a laugh. “I’m invincible! I don’t think drowning in a tiny puddle will kill me.” Actually, he’s never thought of that before: any kind of internal death maybe killing him.
“Alright, if you insist,” shrugged the SeaWing, dragging himself out of the ‘puddle’. Yet when he came out, his scales were dry and not a drop of water hit the floor.
“I see you see my spell,” (Y/n) observed, catching his dark, watching eyes. “Just a simple one that I thought I’d add: whenever anyone comes out of the pool, they would come out completely dry. So that no one slips or anything.”
“That’s... a cute spell,” commented Darkstalker, glancing at the small puddle of water splashed at him. It did not apply to water that was thrown apparently.
The other dragon spluttered. “Thanks.” Were the scales under his eyes always darker or did Darkstalker just miss that detail? “You can go. I can tell you’re tired and I’m sure you really need a kingly nap, probably better than hear me squawking like a gull!”
Ah. There’s that nervous SeaWing Darkstalker knew so long ago. He found it a charmingly cute trait of Fathom’s: always so shy and sputtery yet thoughtful.
“Perhaps,” agreed Darkstalker. He realized that a grin was creeping on his face, using a shake of his head to drive it away. “Good night then I suppose.”
“Yeah. Good night,” said (Y/n). He gently closed the dark door in his face. Yet, Darkstalker lingered at it for a long moment before finally walking away, tail draping behind him.
Darkstalker was angry. Another failed Clearsight attempt. He wasn’t quite sure how many times he could do this, to try and recreate his beloved. The NightWing king left the dragoness in the crowded garden and instead stomped to another courtyard, this one at least bring more tame of weeds. As he stepped down the stairs, Darkstalker noticed the broken statue at that were posted on each side, using his magic to repair it. Despite this, the NightWing statue was still cracked in several places. But he was too exhausted to deal with it.
Darkstalker sat in a shady loft, looking at the stretch of gnarled weeds that ruthlessly choked out everything else. He really needed to hire a gardener. Yet the only gardener that came to mind was (Y/n), who’s only worked with coral. The way that he lights up when he talks about how fascinating coral actually was seemed to make Darkstalker smile a bit.
Speaking of which, the sea dragon was trekking across the field of weeds, when he made it to the path (Y/n) was shaking his talons of clumps of plants. Quietly, he sat down next to Darkstalker.
“You look tired again,” (Y/n) points out.
The NightWing heaved a sigh that was akin to a gale. “I know. It’s just that... it’s a really stressful time right now.”
A mutter of thought occurred next to him but didn’t pay attention to what (Y/n) was thinking. The other dragon then nudged him with his shoulder.
“Come fly with me,” he told him, a couple of his side stripes lighting up. “I know what will relax ya.”
Spiraled and starry wings opened and took to the sky. The winds provided enough up vent currents to keep the two dragons in a comfortable glide as they travelled towards the coast. (Y/n) ducked towards the southern side, where the black sands were fine and with little rocks. Darkstalker followed though, the sand was surprisingly soft as it crunched under his talons. Maybe it was due to his enormous size. The (blue/green) dragon just laid upon it, using his wide tail to pat the sand next to him. The king obliged, curling his body alongside (Y/n), tail dipping into the sea. The sun was warm against his black scales, drawing in the warmth and only made him more tired.
“Sun bathing is always so relaxing and low energy,” (Y/n) said. “These give the best naps. So warm and comfy.”
Darkstalker’s head finally lowered, coming back around to face (Y/n)’s own face.
He hummed. “I suppose.” Despite wanting to slip into sleep, he just couldn’t. There were so many things buzzing around like flittering bats around in his head.
“(Y/n),” he began, eyes cracking open in hooded slits. Just so that he can watch the wrist band. “Do you... like me?”
Some of the stripes upon his body glowed. “Well of course,” (Y/n) smiled. The silver band remained as is. “You’re a charming guy and you’re doing so much even after waking up after thousands of years. That’s something to admire.”
How could this SeaWing be so honest? Darkstalker almost wants him to lie at least once.
“What about me?” (Y/n) asked back. “Did I finally convince you that my family actually isn’t that bad?”
The night dragon gave a earth thrumming chuckle. “I suppose,” he says. “But you have proved to be my favorite thus far.”
“More than your best friend Fathom?” he pressed.
“Maybe,” Darkstalker said, flicking his tongue, also tapping (Y/n) with its tips. He used his wing to block the large tongue but laughed.
“Can I ask you one more thing before I slip into oblivion?” inquired the giant NightWing.
“Of course. Anything,” (Y/n) assured.
His heart thrummed nervously, almost fearing all of Pyhrria would feel it.
“If I asked you to be with me, more than a friend of mine or even more than Fathom was to me, would you say yes?”
Those (e/c) eyes widened and the scales in his face darkened. “I’m not sure.”
The aquamarine gemstone upon the silver cuff suddenly gleamed, despite not being tilted.
“Really? You could have lied to me about anything on the continent,” said Darkstalker, tail twitching in the water, “but you want to speak dishonestly about this? Just tell me the truth like you always do, please I must hear this.”
(Y/n) hesitated for a moment, the color of his face was almost its darkest hues. “I will admit that I am attracted towards you, in more than one way.”
“You don’t have to tell me how,” Darkstalker told him, his massive claws landing gently onto his back and wings, causing (Y/n) to jump. “I already know how awesome I am.” Darkstalker smiled more as he heard him laugh.
“So does this mean I get to kiss you?” Darkstalker asked again, with his more appealing tone.
“No,” (Y/n) chuckled. The gem gleaned again.
“You’re a terrible liar.” Darkstalker leaned forward and pressed his giant snout onto his (blue/green) one, feeling relief to finally do this.
The SeaWing melted against him, nuzzling the dark scales.
“Does this mean you’ll finally sleep?” he asked, licking his snout playfully.
Darkstalker wrapped around (Y/n), the talon that rested on his back dragged him closer to his invincible chest.
“Yeah, I guess,” he said. His dark eyes finally let close, still warm from the sun and fuzzy with affection and settled into the sound of crashing waves.
At first you were Willow’s friend, as you’ve been friends with her during the first year of the Pyhrria and Pantala union. First meeting along a small cliff shoreline of Pantala as Willow admired the blooming ice plants before taking notice of the out-of-place SeaWing amongst them, pressing a couple flowers into a journal.
“Hello,” Willow greets.
With a surprised jolt, he turned to regard her. “Hi!” he enthusiastically replied.
You made introductions with each other, excited to see a new dragon. When Willow asked about the journal, you explained that you were just collecting samples as you have a fascination with plants.
From there that was the common ground that brought you both to continue seeing each other after the first encounter. These meetings were comparing notes to simple adventuring to find see what you can find on the way, the two dragons found ways to always see one another. Sometimes other friends are welcomed but they enjoyed the solo times better.
Willow finds the SeaWing’s language to be another intriguing thing to her, always so thrilled to see his stripes glow. (Y/n) proudly showed them off to her whenever she asked, in turn finding her calm demeanor charming.
It wasn’t long before you met Sundew as well, being Willow’s girlfriend of course, she was eager to show her off. Upon finding out that she has the ability to talk to plants made (Y/n)’s jaw drop and eager of course.
You all were always excited to exchange continental botany, both of land and sea. The sea always gave you such interesting specimens to discover and show the LeafWings. When Sundew spoke to the SeaWing’s “pet” anemone, she described it as cohesive blubbering and slimy.
But Sundew seems more interested in the spooky details about the ocean, finding most of the things told not to be true despite being seen by dragon eyes until she started listening to the plants. She respected you for living in the scariest part of the entire world.
At least during her prickly days, Sundew can take out her energy on you in a friendly bout. While Willow doesn’t totally agree with these methods, she was convinced after overseeing a few of your fights.
During your time together, of course there is flirting between Sundew and Willow however, their relationship was enduring in your eyes. It’s always good to see love flourish anywhere. And it makes for great material to use to egg them with.
Bumblebee is a whole different story. Her first introduction was loud.
“SEEWIG!” she declared very and pulled the most grumpiest face you’ve ever seen on a dragonet. “AHWAY!”
Giving a hissing spat before retreating to the golden-flecked LeafWing, leaving the older dragons with wide expressions.
Apparently her encounter with Tsunami left a bad taste of SeaWing for Bumblebee, now reluctant to meet her guardians’ friend.
“It’s quite alright and I get it,” you chuckled. “Meeting new dragons is scary!”
“We let her know you were coming,” Sundew assured, glancing at the dragonet using her to hide.
“Come on, Bumblebee. (Y/n) is a very nice SeaWing. He loves plants like us and explores the ocean all the time,” Willow tries to encourage.
You took out your journal and a couple charcoal pencils, placing them on a nearby table.
“Would you like to draw in my book? I bet you’re an amazing artist!” you spur to Bumblebee.
That got her attention as the HiveWing dragonet peeks her head to see the blank pages and the potential for its creativity. With a look of approval from the LeafWings, Bumblebee sheepishly steps up to the table. You began to doodle on your side of the paper: starting with a welcoming jellyfish, adding a school of simple fishes around it.
“Wha dat?” Bumblebee points to it.
“A jellyfish, and these are just some fish,” you explained.
“Feesh!” she perked. “Lub feesh!”
“Me too!” you agreed. “I really like salmon. What’s your favorite fish to eat?”
Bumblebee made an extensive list of things (not just fish) that she enjoys to eat, but your dragonet talk was not very good and only got half the things she told you, however went along with her tirade. She doodles along with you, consisted of messy scribbles of Pantalan dragons, animals and bugs and even a couple of scavengers – humans.
The LeafWings watched them interact with each other, gently smiling as the older SeaWing would encourage and answer Bumblebee’s myriad of curious questions, even if it was vague. At least now they have another dragon they trust to watch Bumblebee. Maybe sneak out on more dates with this newfound opportunity.

Now whenever you went to see their family, Bumblebee was more excited to see you, more so she can see what kind of weird sea snack you brought for the HiveWing dragonet. Today was a large strip of sweet eel jerky. Once it was in her mouth, her eyes grew so large they almost popped out of her skull.
“GOO NOMS!” Bumblebee all but shrieked. “Googie neets!”
The adults laugh at her reaction as they greet each other, giving Willow a hug as Sundew smiled at you.
“We are so glad you came over today, (Y/n),” Willow says.
“Likewise,” (Y/n) tells her. “And I found this kind of kelp–“
“You’re all work and no play sometimes,” huffed Sundew. “We have something for you and I can’t wait to see your face.”
Brows lifting in curiosity, you request, “I am very intrigued, do show.”
She guides you towards the kitchen.
Bumblebee skitters away suddenly in a flurry of scrambling talons to a different part of their home. Only mildly confused, your trio continue their journey to the small kitchen area, walls covered in edible herbs and food bearing plants. And there on the counter was a simple green cake, atop the icing were several colorful pansies decorating it, of all things.
Before you could ask about it, the LeafWings shout in unison:
“Happy Hatching Day, (Y/n)!”
This left you utterly flabbergasted for a moment, mainly because it’s impossible, taking a moment to remember the current date.
“W-what? How did you even know?” you splutter.
Sundew was smirking at your (predictably) shocked face. “Willow did all the brilliant math and figured it out.”
“That’s brilliant all right!” you praise. “I didn’t even know it was today.”
Willow herself smiles sheepishly. “It was nothing. I just got bored and curious then saw how close it was so we decided to do something nice for you.”
“This is more than nice, it’s wonderful! Thank you two so much. I haven’t celebrated my hatching day in years because of the war and then it kinda slipped my mind and forgot I guess.” You were overjoyed by the surprise, grinning from horn to horn.
“Now let’s eat the cake we totally-did-not-buy,” Sundew enthused, already eyeing it.
“But where’s –?” The question was answered by a thundering of dragonet feet as Bumblee launches herself into the kitchen, almost slamming into your wide tail.
“Ookl Seewig! I’s drewed a curd for Seewing hathday,” Bumblebee proudly presented her gift. A card with every color to exist scribbled upon the paper until it was no longer white. The words scrawled inside were (of course) unintelligible but the dragons inside were recognizable enough to make your heart melt nonetheless.
“Awe! I love it Bumblebee, it’s the best gift in the world,” you told her.
The black and yellow HiveWing buzzed happily to make her grownup friend so pleased for his present.
“Me bestest, I’s noses,” she acknowledged sassily.
The dragons chuckle before slicing into the cake at last (Bumblebee given the first piece to keep the peace).
Even if (Y/n) hasn’t had cake many times in his life, he knew that this was the best tasting one in the world.
