Your entire being was trembling. Your breath, your hands, your shoulders, your legs, every single cell in your body was buzzing with adrenaline. Your eyes flickered with each faint noise, your neck constantly craning to look behind you, your fingers twitching towards the nearest locker everytime the lights barely flickered.
It was when that familiar voice echoed through the vent that had its cover flying that you forced yourself to relax. Wouldn't want to fuel his teasing, would you?
"Well if it isn't my favorite customer~! Come on in, look around!"
Swallowing thickly, your eyes darted over his goods. You already had a blacklight, you didn't need a medkit, and you had tons of batteries.
"I don't think I'll be buying anything today..." You said quietly. "Maybe next time."
Sebastian, for the first time, softened. His three eyes seemed to scan over your figure, noticing the fatigue, the shuddering breaths, the bags under your eyes. "...You okay, kid?"
You managed a wobbly smile, waving him off. "Yeah, you know me. I'll manage."
He didn't respond for a few minutes, one of his hands twirling in his hair, a habit you've noticed a while ago. He seemed to be in thought.
Not wanting to keep him any longer, you picked up the keycard and turned toward the vent to leave. His voice stopped you in your tracks.
"Wait. You can stay. For a bit. Just rest. I'll wake you up if your PRG starts going off. Hopefully my scrambler can... scramble it."
You didn't know why, and neither did he, but Sebastian had a soft of a soft spot for you. Maybe it was because you reminded him of his siblings. Maybe you reminded him of p.AInter. Maybe it was just something about you that made him not wanna hate you.
The staring contest between you two lasted about two minutes. With a soft smile, you mumbled your thanks and approached him. His thick tail curled up to form a platform for you to rest on, and he took off his jacket for you to use as a blanket.
He'd never know how much this meant to you. Your muscles were aching, your head was pounding, you hadn't slept in days. Your thumb gently carressed his scales, appreciating the cool feel of them against your skin. How long had it been since someone offered comfort to you? How long had it been since you could relax, let your guard down, smile without worrying?
He pretended not to care, pretended he was examining a document or sorting through files.
But in reality, his attention was on you.
And behind him, his tail twitched with all the effort it took for him to keep it from wagging.
