You're not late, my darling Seb. It's never too late for you. Linger is one of the stories I'm most proud of. The writing style and atmosphere is different from anything else I've written, so it has a special place in my heart.

Chapter three picks up right after the end of the previous chapter, but is told from Lou's perspective, meaning we get to see our favorite cowboy through her eyes. They go to the bar to have a celebratory drink, but Rhett has one too many and can't possibly drive, so Lou takes him to her place to sleep it off. She deposits him on her bed and goes to take the couch, but he insists she sleep in the bed with him. She gives in. He's cute when he pouts. She tries to stay on her side of the bed, putting space between them, but she's cold and Rhett notices. In his drunken stupor, he pulls her closer and traces patterns on her exposed skin. Lou knows she should stop him—get up and sleep on the couch like she intended, but it's nice to be this close to another human without any expectations. Rhett is warm and magnetic. When she wakes up the next morning, Rhett is long gone, but his scent lingers on her sheets and she can't help but breathe him in.
