The current shortlist for potential second dog is:
Basenji
Norfolk Terrier
Norwich Terrier
Tenterfield Terrier
Smooth Fox Terrier
Chinese Crested (Powderpuff)
Papillon
Schipperke
The problems with Basenji and Schipperke are pretty similar, they are both independent breeds that aren’t great for sports (and Schips bark).
I am not totally convinced that I’d be able to deal with a terrier, but they fit so many of my other requirements, so I narrowed it down to four maybe breeds. Not totally convinced by the health of Norfolk or Norwich though, seems a bit of a gamble.
At the moment I’m still thinking the best fit is a Papillon, but I read a lot about Chinese Crested last night and I think maybe a Powderpuff would be a good fit?
If anyone could offer some personal insight on any of these breeds (except Schipperke, I know completely what I’d be getting into there) please let me know! Or if there’s another breed you think would suit me, my main requirements are: small, (hopefully) not prone to barking, energetic but not overly so, trainable, not over the top grooming, potential sport dog, gets on with other dogs.
The other option is a shelter dog, but that would have to happen down south. The shelter dogs where I live do not fit my requirements as 99% of them are large.

Hey, you would cry too if this lil guy wanted to come be your best friend.

Start Small One of the worst mistakes a dog owner can make is to assume that since the initial introduction went well there…

One Day
I’ll get my second dog. I want my other dog. I don’t know where they are or if they exist yet. But dang. I’m so tired of waiting.
I started trying to get a second dog in 2014 and I’m not going to give up.
We're looking into getting another dog I'm so excited!
