Being a teacher and a gamer is Suffering
I do reading interventions for second graders, and one of the tests we give our kids for progress monitoring is a nonsense word test where they have to read "made-up words" to prove that they can decode the sounds.
The problem is that one of the example words that they read before the actual test is "lum," which, if you're a Rayman fan, is not a nonsense word. It's a collectible which the Rayman Origins instruction manual specifically says is "pronounced 'Looms,' like ilLUMination, and not 'Lumms,' as in dumb," but they want us to pronounce it lum as in dumb. Every time I had to tell a kid, "That's right, it's l-uh-m, lum," it sent chills down my spine.
Also, my last name was one of the nonsense words, which was so offensive, especially when a kid got it wrong. You've known me for two months. This should be easy.
Always volunteered to be door holder in the second grade
(Seven-year-old Charlie is in her second grade class with a few of her classmates and raises her hand) Charlie: I know the answer! 8 times 2 is 16! Classmate #1: Why do you always have to act like that? You know that's embarrassing for all of us! Classmate #2: You're such a teacher's pet! Charlie: It's because she gives me gold stars. Duh! Classmate #3: Who cares? Those are just meaningless tokens of appreciation that don't mean shit outside these walls! Charlie: Well... she said if we washed her car, she would throw us a pizza party at the end of the year. Classmate #1: Pizza party? (The classmates look at each other as Charlie smiles sheepishly) Classmates: PIZZA PARTY!!! (All of Charlie's classmates run out of the classroom cheering as Charlie slowly walks out of the room giggling to herself)
you know they’re a PJO fan when they say “omgs” instead of “omg”
