Kamea has suddenly passed away after being seen in the med bay for at least a day. SeaWorld Texas announces it today.

She was only 13 :(
It’s crushing. She was born in December 2013 and would’ve been 12 this year. I’ve been thinking since yesterday about how to address her loss, and there’s really no words. I’m deeply lucky to know some of Kamea’s team and to have spent a short but precious amount of time with her family. My favorite memory is watching her join her mom and sister to splash and squirt guests prior to showtime, completely on their own. I think it’s fun for them to make people scream and flee for cover.
Kamea was the youngest orca at San Antonio, and the first loss in their pod since the death of her newborn sister Kyara 8 years ago. With her passing, four orcas remain in Texas—her mother Takara (33), sister Sakari (15), and males Kyuquot (33) and Tuar (26). My thoughts and heart are with the SeaWorld San Antonio veterinary team, Orca Stadium caregivers, and most of all her pod, above all Takara and Sakari. I’ll never forget the three of them together, a matriline that ended too soon.
Goodbye, Kamea. You are so missed.
