Flash Fic: Coffee Break
Because we still need more Elodie!! :D
Elodie stood in the study, with her back leaning against the desk behind her. She stared thoughtfully out of the window, watching the wind rustle through the trees from the huge bay window in front of her.
Elodie looked round as the door to the study opened behind her.
Phoebe, the part time family maid, general assistant, full time semi-legally adopted daughter and unofficially the family bodyguard, (not to mention personal assassin,) entered the room carrying a tray laden with a coffee pot, sugar bowl, cream jug and other tea/coffee serving paraphernalia.
Seeing Elodie, Phoebe froze in the doorway, waiting to be asked in.
Elodie gave her a warming smile and straightened up, gesturing to the empty desk beside her. “Phoebe, please come in. Just put the tray down here.”
Phoebe smiled back, reassured and entered the room.
But before she could place the tray on the desk, Elodie asked her: “Did you get the brown sugar?”
At this, a look of confusion and possibly dread crossed Phoebe’s face. Pausing to rearrange the tray, she lifted the lid of the sugar bowl, revealing that it contained nothing but white sugar.
Immediately, Phoebe realised that she had brought the wrong type of sugar that Elodie had requested. Ashamed, she raised her eyes to Elodie.
“Oh no!! E-Elodie, I am so sorry!!” Phoebe apologized profusely, shamed by her error. She hurriedly placed down the tray, desperately trying to remedy the situation.
Elodie, however in contrast to her younger assistant, remained calm. She smiled to herself, somewhat amused and touched by Phoebe’s willingness to please.
She watched as Phoebe swiftly turned around and made for the door.
“I’ll just go back to the shop, get some more and-” Phoebe began, in her haste to leave and fix the disaster she felt she had caused.
“Phoebe.” Elodie called to her, smiling. “Don't worry about it.”
Hearing this, Phoebe immediately halted in her tracks, frozen in the act of reaching for the door handle.
Perplexed by this sudden announcement, she turned round to stare at Elodie incredulously. “Wh-what?!” she asked in confusion.
Elodie shrugged back at her. “It’s only sugar, Phoebe. Don’t worry yourself about it. Come sit with me, please.” She asked, pulling up a chair and sitting down, gesturing for her assistant to do the same.
Phoebe still stood at the door, looking completely nonplussed. She took a couple of steps towards Elodie, trying to figure out what was happening.
“But... But you said that...” She began, before Elodie cut her off.
“Yes, I know I requested brown sugar, but since we don’t have any... It’s fine. Phoebe, it’s not the end of the world.” She told Phoebe, giving her a curious stare.
Phoebe realised that she had been beaten and stood nervously in the centre of the room, tugging at the back of her hair anxiously. “Okay... yeah, I suppose I got a little ahead of myself there...” She admitted bashfully.
Elodie smiled to herself, pleased that Phoebe was trying so hard. “Phoebe, please don't make yourself ill worrying about it. It’s alright. Now, come sit.” She told the younger woman reassuringly, gesturing to the empty seat across form her.
“I need another person to help me drink all this!!” She told her assistant teasingly, giving her a broad and playful grin.
Phoebe blushed and smiled back, before she went to join her Madame and second mother at the desk.
Fin.
Elodie and Phoebe moments!! :D
Hello everyone!! I am back with some more Elodie moments!!
Because she is my second mum and I love her very much.
This episode fleshes out a bit more of the Sempai/Kohai dynamic between the graceful, feminine, mother figure of Elodie, and the strange, nerdy, tormented, cold semi professional family bodyguard Phoebe! :)
(I just love the whole Ojou/maidservant thing going on between these two!) <3
(I’ll let you figure out who the graceful, beautiful one and the shy weird nerdy servant one is!)
Enjoy and remember to like if you want more!! ;)
Finally Thomas reached a decision and sighed. He nodded. "All right. But make sure she's back in 3 hours." He told his wife. (”For important things!”)
Elodie smiled at him gratefully and nodded, before she ran to the door to catch up with Phoebe.
"Phoebe!! Phoebe!" Elodie called as she raced up the stairs leading from the basement.
Elodie caught up with her just as Phoebe was entering the study.
"Oh, E-Elodie.... Hi." She replied.
The two woman stood awkwardly for a moment. "Phoebe? Would you like to come sit with me for a minute? I'd like to talk with you." Elodie asked pleasantly.
Phoebe hesitated. "I I don't know I uh..." Phoebe began, gesturing to the study door behind her.
But Elodie took hold of her hand gently. "Just for a talk. Just the two of us. Ok?" She asked the younger woman, smiling warmly.
Reassured, Phoebe smiled back. "Okay..."
Elodie lead the younger girl into the study, before she sat down opposite her charge and poured them both coffee.
"Now. Tell me everything." Elodie said.
Phoebe paused unable to comprehend what Elodie was getting at. "E-everything?" She repeated nervously, wrapping her hands around her coffee cup for comfort.
"Well..." Phoebe began.
Almost immediately, Phoebe yelped in pain as the hot cup scalded her hand. "Aah!! Jesus Christ!!" Phoebe yelped, clutching her burned hand.
(Author’s note: If you listen carefully, you can hear my skin sizzling!!) :)
Elodie meanwhile, could only stare over at Phoebe quizzically, a bemused look on her face.
(Cut dialogue: Elodie: “Phoebe, why did you do that?!” -_-’ Phoebe: “I don’t know!!”) :’(
There was an awkward silence as Elodie turned away, sipping her coffee gracefully, glancing over at Phoebe in concern out of the corner of her eye.
Phoebe meanwhile could only cradle her hand in pain. "Ow!! Oh god, my hand!! That's my face stabbing hand!! I use it to stab people! With knives! In the face!!"
Elodie meanwhile could only look on in complete incomprehension. (Sweat drop.)
Finally, Phoebe managed to compose herself enough to return to the matter at hand.
(dialogue missing here.)
Elodie paused delicately. “Because I want to understand you.” she replied to Phoebe finally.
Phoebe could only look back at her, shocked. Overwhelmed by Elodie’s empathy towards her, Phoebe couldn't speak. “O-Oujo-sama....” <3
Happy Birthday!! To My Second Mum... ;) <3
To celebrate Elodie’s B-day, I have decided to post some of my fave moments of her from my very own fanfic!! :D Hope you enjoy!! and Happy Birthday Elodie!! :D
Moment 1: From Ninja Maid Time!
Suddenly, all three of the siblings looked up as a voice called to them. “Tara-Jay? Roxan? Where are you?” A woman’s voice called from the stairwell, before Elodie Bouchez, Thomas’s wife and T.J and Roxan’s mother appeared on the stairs. “What are you two doing up?” she demanded of her two sons, before she ushered them up the stairs, “Go on, get to bed, leave your sister alone!” Elodie made to follow her two sons up the stairs, before she paused and stared down at Phoebe in concern.
Wrapping her nightgown tighter around herself, Elodie paused. “Phoebe?” Phoebe looked up at her, then lowered her eyes bashfully, slightly ashamed at her earlier outburst. “Hey, Mom.” Phoebe replied quietly in a fake American accent. But despite the change in accent, Phoebe still remained serious. Elodie paused, aware that something was wrong with her semi-legally adopted daughter, before she quickly glanced up the stairs to see if T.J and Roxan had gone to bed. Then she climbed down the stairs and came over to Phoebe.
Phoebe didn’t move, instead looking down at the floor, unusually subdued. Sensing what had happened, Elodie asked, “Did Thomas and Guy-Man speak to you?” she asked. Phoebe paused, then nodded. “Yeah.” She replied. “Elodie, I…I just wanted to say…I’m sorry. If…I caused, any…you know, problems.” Realizing that Phoebe was doing her best to apologize, not just for the fight she had caused, but also seemingly barging into their life, Elodie smiled at her reassuringly. “Don’t worry, it’s okay. Just so long as you’ve sorted it out.” Elodie paused, before she asked, “What did Thomas say?” Phoebe shrugged. “Just that he’ll talk to me in the morning. Now I’ve just got to go to my room and think about what I did.” She told Elodie jokily, smiling. Elodie smiled back, relieved, before she ushered Phoebe to the kitchen. “Come on. I’ll get you a drink and you can tell me about it.” she told the younger woman as they walked away down the corridor.
Phoebe took a gulp of the milk Elodie had given her, and wiped away some of the brick dust and grime she had accumulated on her clothes during the night. Now that she was bathed in the harsh light of the kitchen, Phoebe felt a little embarrassed that she was such a mess. “Sorry.” She apologized to Elodie, who shrugged it off as she placed some nibbles on a plate and placed in front of her. “It’s okay Phoebe, don’t worry. It’s very brave, what you’re doing.” She told her, while Phoebe smiled back at her bashfully. “Heh. Thanks.” She replied, taking a bite of her toast(?)
(Phoebe tells Elodie all about what happened that night. The fight and talking with Thomas and Guy-Man.)
Then Phoebe paused, reluctant about what she was going to say next. “So…you, don’t think that what I’m doing is crazy, then?” she queried to her. To Phoebe, Elodie was almost like an older sister at the very least, a confidante, or maybe even the mother Phoebe herself had had, but had not received the appropriate motherly affection from in her life.
At this, Elodie paused, as though trying to think how best to phrase her response. “Well…I do think that what you’re doing Phoebe, is very admirable, but also quite dangerous. I’m sure your own mother would not be pleased if she knew you were going to such lengths to protect all of us. I know that you see both Thomas and Guy-Man as the father you never had, and I do sympathize with you. I think you are a very brave girl. And not just brave, but compassionate too. What you did for that man seemed…violent, yes, but you were doing it to protect that which is dear to you, and I respect that. I know Thomas and Guy-Man respect that too.” Here Elodie paused for a moment, while Phoebe herself listened intently. “But another thing I have to ask is… Do you really intend to throw your life away, for us, for this whole family? For people you have never met before in your life?”
At this, Phoebe chewed thoughtfully, before she pushed her plate away to stare Elodie full in the face. “Elodie…I know that you don’t know me, and I don’t know you, very well, if at all, but I would like to say one thing. I’ve said it to Thomas and Guy-Man, and I have said it to myself for so long now, that I don’t know anything else. But ever since that day, since I was a little girl no older than Roxan… I…see Thomas and Guy-Man as the only father’s I’ve ever known, because I never had a father. I mean, even now, I am slightly envious of T.J and Roxan, because at least they know their father, and be able to look up to him… Me, on the other hand…” Here Phoebe paused to look up at Elodie, and she could see the pain in Phoebe’s eyes. “I’ve never had a real family. And I feel that this is my chance to know what it’s like, to feel…loved. To be somewhere I belong. Because I think you can give me that.”
There was another pause between the two women, as Phoebe paused to wipe her eyes. “And…Elodie? I would really like it, if you could be like a mum to me. Not for real of course, but I have anyway. I mean, since I already call Thomas and Guy-Man Dad…” Here Phoebe smiled, a little sadly. “I thought it was only right…to call you Mom…” Elodie paused, too overwhelmed by the emotions this young woman was emanating. “Oh, Phoebe….” She began, while Phoebe finished her late night snack and drained the last of her milk, setting the empty glass down on the table.
“Well, I’d better get to bed. “ she told Elodie, as she suddenly felt the pain and exhaustion flooding through her body. Only then did Phoebe realize that she was tired. Pushing her chair away, Phoebe gathered her katanas and stood up to leave out of the door leading outside into the garden, where Phoebe’s “bedroom” was.
She paused at the door, turning towards Elodie. “Dad… Thomas says he’ll think about my punishment in the morning. Until then, I’ll get some rest. Goodnight, Mom.” Phoebe told Elodie, the seriousness practically disappearing from her voice, but Elodie knew that Phoebe still held that pain, deep down. With that, Phoebe gave a jaunty wave and stepped outside into the cold night air, sliding the patio door closed behind her, where she was soon swallowed up by the night. Elodie was left alone to stare after her. She smiled sadly. “Goodnight, sweetie.” She replied.
Moment 2: From The Siblings Clash!!
(Phoebe and her younger brother Tara-Jay have had a little falling out, over the fact that Phoebe is somewhat illegitimate... I’ll have you know, my parents were married!!) >:(
Suddenly, they all looked up to see Phoebe sliding open the back door, which lead into the garden.
"Phoebe?!" Elodie asked, "Where are you going?!" Phoebe turned back to give her a reassuring smile. "I'm just going out to the garden. I need to train." The younger girl replied, winking over at Elodie to show that she was alright now, although she wasn't really fooling anyone.
A few minutes later, Thomas and Elodie stood behind the large window that gazed out into the garden from the kitchen.
Outside, they could clearly see Phoebe training diligently in preparation for the battle ahead.
Thomas stood as still and unmoving as stone, mechanically pouring himself coffee and sipping it, his eyes never leaving Phoebe's form as she hit out again and again at the training dummy in front of her.
As he watched, Phoebe landed a hit and stepped back into stance, ready to strike again.
"You know, I worry about her, Thomas." Elodie said eventually.
Thomas turned to look at her in surprise.
Elodie: "She does this all for your benefit." "She believes in you so blindly, that she would give up her own life to protect both of you!!" "Aren't you concerned about this?!"
Thomas sighed, bowing his head for a moment, as though the weight of it pressed down on him. "This was her choice, Elodie." He replied, almost subdued.
Elodie whipped round to glare at him in disbelief. "She calls me her mother, Thomas!!" "She sees me as a sister!" "It makes me feel bad, looking at how much she sacrifices for you!! And you allow her to do this for you!! When you both know that she cannot survive any of this!!"
Thomas bore Elodie's outburst in silence, before he calmly replied, "She does this because she has nothing left to lose. Because she knows this is the only thing she has left to believe in. To that end, she would sacrifice her life." he told his wife, sounding almost like a scientist explaining how an experiment was planning out. His voice lacked expression and sounded very matter-of-fact.
Thomas paused to sip his coffee calmly. (Author’s Note: Like a BADASS!!)
"I know-We both know, what she has gone through. Neither of us can begin to understand it, but we know." Thomas paused, frowning to himself. "I know you don't like it, Elodie, but..." He sighed, almost regretfully. "We've found a way to use that. Phoebe has purpose, direction now. Before she had no-one to guide her, to believe in her, to tell her that she was something, and that someone was proud of her." He told Elodie, who stood listening in concern.
Thomas paused for a moment to nudge his glasses back into place, making them glint in the light. "Before, she could only imagine it. Now, it's different. She feels we understand and wants us to understand." He continued, as he watched Phoebe practice her hand signs.
"She felt, still feels, abandoned, alone, rejected... and she's unable to come to terms with that. She still carries a lot of pain. And she thinks we are the ones to pull her out of that." He replied, as he and Elodie both watched Phoebe do push ups outside.
Elodie glanced over at her husband, before she turned back to watch Phoebe anxiously.
Outside, Phoebe had finished practicing her hand-to-hand techniques.
Straightening up out of her stance, she walked over to her equipment bag and pulled a pair of instruments out. They looked like black straps with three prongs on one side.
Phoebe stood up, slipping the claws onto her hands and made her way over to a tree across from her. Placing her hand against the trunk for a moment, Phoebe sighed and closed her eyes, thinking back to her training...
(Flashback Sequence!!) :D
Returning to the present, Phoebe smiled to herself. She had certainly tried hard with Pedro. Digging her hands and the prongs of her shuko into the bark, Phoebe quickly climbed up onto the lowest branch. She sat there for a long while, staring off into the horizon, thinking...
"Phoebe?" a voice suddenly called from the garden below.
"Hm?" Startled out of her reminiscing's, Phoebe looked down to see, to her surprise, Elodie standing under the tree she was sitting in, looking up at her. She shaded her eyes from the setting sun. "Can you come down? I have something for you." Elodie called up to her.
Phoebe began to climb down and landed on one knee in front of Elodie. Standing back up to greet her, Elodie smiled at her and handed her a covered plate. "I thought you might be hungry, so I brought you this." Elodie explained. Phoebe paused, hesitating. "Elodie, that's nice but I'm-"
As soon as she said this, Phoebe's stomach gave a rather loud growl. "Uh..." Phoebe placed a hand to her stomach and grinned bashfully. The two women giggled at each other, before Phoebe decided to take the plate.
"Thanks." Phoebe replied shyly, before she sat down on the grass to eat. Elodie paused, before she followed suit, sitting across from Phoebe.
The two women sat in silence for a while as Elodie watched Phoebe eat in amusement.
"Mm! This is good!!" Phoebe told Elodie appreciatively as she ravenously began to dig into her meal. Elodie smiled back, pleased that her cooking had gone down so well. "What's in this?" Phoebe asked after taking a few more mouthfuls. "It's... just leftovers, Phoebe." Elodie explained, puzzled. (Auth. From dinner earlier.)
Phoebe stopped chewing abruptly as an awkward pause settled between the two women. "Oh..." Phoebe replied. (Elodie Sweat Drops.)
Elodie watched as Phoebe ate the last few morsels left on her plate and finally put down her knife and fork. Elodie smiled as Phoebe placed the empty plate beside her and patted her stomach happily. "Was that good?" Elodie asked. Phoebe smiled back. "That was fantastic, Elodie!" Phoebe replied, leaning back to look up at the sky. Elodie smiled appreciatively, pleased and amused at Phoebe's politeness, before she turned to look down with concern at the younger woman.
"I hope you're not pushing yourself too hard." Elodie told Phoebe, who shrugged nonchalantly. "It's no problem, I'm fine." she replied, maybe a little too casually.
There was a pause.
"Elodie..." Phoebe announced suddenly into the silence, "Why doesn't Tara-Jay like me?" For a moment, Elodie could only look up in shock at this statement, before she composed herself as she struggled to think of an answer. "Phoebe, don't say that! Of course Tara-Jay likes you! It's just... He's finding it difficult, to come to terms with..."
Phoebe: "He thinks I'm a nuisance...And he's probably right..." "There really is no reason for me to be here... I'm just wasting everyone's time..."
(blah blah blah more angst! Waahh! No one understands me!! I’m an angsty female protagonist!!)
Elodie changes the subject. “So. How’s training going?” she asked Phoebe, who shrugged once again.
Phoebe leant back on her elbows, staring up into the clear afternoon sky. She watched the clouds chase each other across the bright, robin’s egg blue sky. “Not too bad.” she replied causally.
(Author’s notes: ooh, I'm being so poetic in my narrative!! :D)
"Why don't you show me?" Elodie asked her younger charge. Phoebe looked up, puzzled, as Elodie stood up and smirked down at her confidently, while holding out her arm to help Phoebe up.
Confused for a few moments, Phoebe finally understood what Elodie meant and immediately tried to dissuade her. "No, Elodie, I couldn't do that!!" she protested. Elodie sighed, folding her arms. "Phoebe, your modesty is admirable, but I think you're forgetting some thing." she told the younger woman.
"But if you get hurt, I would never be able to forgive myself!" Phoebe replied back, still intent on dissuading her "mother" from trying out this course of action.
"I won't let you hurt me!" Elodie explained, holding her hand out once again. "I can show you my own skills!" she replied confidently, smirking.
Still hesitant, Phoebe paused, glancing anxiously from Elodie’ determined face to her outstretched hand. Finally, Phoebe sighed and took the older woman's hand and allowed herself to be hauled to her feet.s
Here Elodie smirked slyly. "Surely, you haven't forgotten my exploits?" She asked Phoebe teasingly. In reply, Phoebe shuffled anxiously. "Uh...Oh, yeah, maybe..." she replied, averting her eyes and nervously scratching the back of her head.
Elodie smiled, amused if slightly understanding Phoebe's discomfort. "Now. Go fetch your sword." Elodie told her suddenly.
Phoebe looked shocked, if not horrified. "What?! No!!" she protested, as Elodie looked in in what seemed to be disapproval. "Hand to hand is fine, but now you want me use weapons?! Actual weapons?!" Phoebe reprimanded her adoptive mother, who in response gave her employee a warning glare.
"Phoebe? Sword. Now!" Elodie demanded. Sufficiently cowed, Phoebe chose to comply. "Yes, Ma'am..." she replied, sighing in defeat, before the younger girl went to retrieve her sheathed ninja-to where it had been propped against the fence behind her.
"Okay... So how do you want to do this?" Phoebe asked Elodie, before she looked up to see her adoptive mother holding two short sticks in her hands.
As Phoebe stared in disbelief, Elodie caught her gaze and smiled. "Let's see if what your father's taught you is true!"
Phoebe only stare back at her, arching a disapproving eyebrow. "There's no way for me to get out of this, is there?" she asked herself helplessly.
(Cue badass Fight Scene!!)
The two women both stared each other down, sliding back into their fighting stances. Phoebe paused to unsheathed her sword and held it out before her, the blade shining fiercely in the light.
After a few moments, Phoebe finally tried to strike the first blow as she brought the blade of her short sword down, where it was immediately blocked by Elodie's Escrima.
Moment 3: From Training T.J
“Ninjas are stupid!!” Tara-Jay retorts at Phoebe, who gave a horrified gasp, not to mention Elodie, Roxan, and Thomas…who dropped his coffee mug in shock, where it smashed onto the floor. Thomas remained frozen as he continued to pour coffee onto the table in front of him.
For a couple of moments, everyone was silent and frozen in shock, still reeling from Tara-Jay’s outburst. He was glaring defiantly at Phoebe, who could only look back at him in wounded surprise. Then she suddenly began to sob, before she turned to Elodie. “Mom?!” she wailed, running over to hug Elodie, distraught. Elodie comforted her as best she could. “Don't worry, Phoebe, it’s okay…” she told her, as Phoebe sobbed into her shoulder. *Gross sobbing!*
Thomas, meanwhile, stormed angrily over to his eldest son. “T.J!! What have I told about teasing Phoebe about her wildly irrational fantasies?!” he scolded his son.
Behind him, Phoebe had just managed to recover from her grief, letting go of Elodie and nodding to show she was all right now, when Thomas’s statement set her off sobbing hysterically again. Once again, she immediately threw herself at, and buried her head in Elodie’s shoulder, who now looked rather nervous about her “adopted” daughter’s emotional state. Looking over Phoebe’s shoulder, she glared over at her husband in consternation. “Thomas!!” she interjected angrily at him, while Thomas himself seemed unperturbed by his actions. “Well, I’m just saying what we’re all thinking!!” he protested, while Elodie could only look back at him in stunned shock. Seeing that Phoebe was still distressed, Elodie began to try to soothe her again. “It’s okay, Phoebe, he didn’t mean it…”
Roxan, meanwhile, went over to confront his older brother. “Now you’ve done it, stupid.” He accused his brother, who glared back at him defiantly. “Done what? Told the truth?” T.J answered back sarcastically. Roxan answered back with a disapproving glare of his own. “No, made our sister cry!!” he replied angrily at his brother, who sighed to himself irritably. “Roxan, for the last time, she is not our sister!!” he shot back, causing Phoebe to collapse into a fresh bout of sobbing behind them in the background. “Will you three just stop it already?!” Came an exasperated Elodie’s voice in the background behind them.
Okay, that's all for now, folks!! :D Like if you want more Elodie fight scenes!! :D

My favourite part of Sunday was when I was standing with Lady and the kids asked if she was my mum, all I could do was laugh a little and say not quite- but what was better was when Lady added with a smile, "but close enough" The hug she gave me at the end of the day made things much better too :) She knows me far too well, and I love her for it. And I thank the universe for allowing me to have such a great best friend/older sister/teacher/mum
