☆ Ability Analysis: Kaolin ☆

“The clay doll familiar. The typical, run-of-the-mill foot soldier.”

Kaolin is somewhat of a homogeneous familiar, both in mannerisms and appearance. All types of this familiar is the same size as Briar: 5′5″. They actually have the potential to be made in taller and shorter sizes, but this fact is currently unknown to the witch. They have quite a bit of a resemblance to golems, as their facial features are minimal, and they sport the color and texture of the earth they have been summoned from. They tend to have a heavier body mass, due to the material they are made out of, and because of their purpose of physical work (though this is not really evident in Kaolin α, which is frailer than its other types). Balljoints are apparent in their anatomy. They do not wear clothing.

As beings without will of their own, they only follow the orders of the witch. In this way they resemble clay puppets, mindlessly following her orders until the next one, or until they perish. They are powered by her will and intent, and will cease to move once that is taken away (whether she focuses too much on another spell, purposely “un-summons” them for another spell, or loses consciousness). The most ideal use for this familiar is physical labor, as they can pick up and move heavier things that Briar cannot. They also make a somewhat decent assist in battle: while they can seek and attack and/or subdue their opponent, they’re not the best at dodging, rather stubbornly slogging though the assault and taking damage instead. Only a few can be summoned at a time, since powering them can become both a magical and mental strain. Perhaps she could summon more in the future, but only when she could become better at focusing her magical intent. However, they can only be summoned if earth is present. If there is no dirt, the spell is useless and will not work.

Since Kaolin is made of the earth, it has a obvious weakness to water, slowing it down and dissolving it into a mass of dirt with the right amount. Kaolin γ is the only exception, as the magic infused in this version helps it resist the liquid (though it will still suffer a loss of speed). It’s suggested that the familiar has a resistance to fire, though that is currently unknown. Except for Kaolin α, this familiar is resistant to physical attacks, due to the combination of solid earth and magical energy. It is possible to destroy them through this method, but since it’s pretty troublesome, magic is recommended.

On a more miscellaneous note, this familiar is capable of channeling Briar’s moods in a subconscious manner when idle. Case in point: if she insists that she’s not upset, while Kaolin nosily crushes or flails against anything in the background, then you can bet she’s lying.

He want's to hide it from her, bury it in a drawer and only tell when he's finally boarding to train to boot camp, but she reads it in his face, in his eyes. He expects her to be mad, to get angry at the Germans, the war, the draft, at the fact that she can't enlist. Instead she presses her lips against his, burying her fingers in his hair, and he thinks that at least he'll have something to come home to.

1.) What's your favorite type of writing utensil? (Pencil, pen, crayon, etc.)

Pen. I like seeing scratched lines, or arrows, or annotations when I'm writing.

2.) What's your dream job?

I used to have no direction in life, but I guess I'm sticking to being a doctor. Traumatizing deaths of significant people in my life contributed to this, giving me a vague wish to help in prolonging life.

3.) Do you think hate is stronger than love, or the opposite?

From the way the world is now, I'd say yes :C

4.) If you could go back in time, what would you change?

In relation to question 2: spend more time with aunt. Especially in her last days. And to my friend too, because I never managed to give him a return present before he "left" so suddenly. I've been an ignorant ingrate damn I'm getting sentimental and emotional stahp nuuuuuu

Seven... I don't know D: ohmygod who am i

6.) What is the TV show that you're addicted to?

... This is embarrassing, but there's no particular show I'm hooked to. I guess whatever it is on History or Discovery Channel. 

7.) Who is your biggest inspiration/hero?

Martyrs. No particular person. I can't even tell the prof that I caught a classmate cheating, much less speak my thoughts and be killed because of it. T^T

8.) Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?

Depends on how attractive wait no lol jk sorry I have severe social anxiety, and I have trust issues. So I guess not :C

9.) Is there anything that has drastically changed the way you view the world?

Victor Hugo's magnum opus: Les MIserables. Maintains a quarter of my thoughts to religion, and gives a broader look on the unequal society. Dragged me to do a little charity too and got me obsessed with revolutionary thoughts for a month or so.

10.) How often do you talk to yourself?

Exams. Pep talks with myself while reviewing. Yeah I'm crazy

11.) Are you more organized or messy?

When I come home very, very exhausted (or depressed, or stressed, or sleepy), I just throw my things in a corner and arrange them the next day or a few hours when I'm feeling better.
