Attempted Debugging
There are days that are good days, there are days that are bad days, and then there are days I like to call Jay days. Two bottles smoking over a sink, tablet open to a page not normally found on the Internet. Distantly, a buzzing. There are people hiding out in their hotel rooms whispering prayers to gods they only reach out to when everything rational has fallen away.
Which is probably more often than they think.
The hotel room door opens with a joyous thump as Jay comes bounding in. “Charlie, Charlie, Charlie: you’ll never guess what happened!”
“No, I won’t.”
“But I had an adventure, which is a really easy guessing!” Jay is eleven. He is also from far Outside the universe and doesn’t believe in six impossible things before breakfast. More often than not, he is six impossible things before breakfast. And sometimes what he has for breakfast counts as a seventh.
“You can go have another –,” I begin, but Jay is all friendship and curiosity and seeking.
He’s beside me in moments, peering at the bottle. “What is that?”
“Bug spray,” I admit.
“Like a cologne for bugs?”
“Ah, no.” He stares up in honest wonder. “This one gets rid of bugs. Don’t worry: it doesn’t work on a Jay.”
“I am tough like a Jay,” he says, the sarcasm sailing far over his head. “But you might hurt bugs with that, Charlie!”
“That is the point.” Jay gapes at that. “You tried to teach an old dog a new trick yesterday, Jay. Which meant a fire-breathing dragon dog. And when the wandering magician said no to that, you decided on cats, and then tried to help mice.”
“I am very good at helping,” Jay says with a pout.
“Yes. But the end result of all your bindings is vampiric dragon fleas. Which I am working out a way to dispose of.”
“But they’re friends,” he protests.
I take a deep breath. I’m not sure which is worse: that I actually found a formula online to get rid of vampiric fleas – it involves sparkling water, garlic, the contents of a vacuum cleaner bag and Bud Light, even if I think at least one of those is a joke – or that Jay is entirely serious.
“Jay. Vampiric dragon fleas are rather dangerous.”
“So are humans,” he says, and follows that up with a huge grin of pride. “That was totally a Charliejoke!”
“Ah. Yes. It was. Definitely a joke. Look: they’re scaring people who don’t understand jaysome, so it might be best to put them somewhere safe. Safe being it’s not anywhere near us at all,” I add firmly.
Jay flickers, vanishes, and reappears a moment later. “I found a nice home for them in the cities under the moon,” he says.
“Which moon?” I ask, because this is Jay.
“The one I found for Venus, because it was missing one and being really sad-face!”
I nod, hand him what was going to be the bug spray and he gulps it back, thanks me for the drink and then heads out to find more adventures to have. I follow him, for all sorts of reasons.
Cinnamon, scary movies, frost? Hello!👋
Hello!!
Cinnamon: What makes you laugh the most?
All sorts of things can make me laugh. At the moment, I can’t think of what makes me laugh the most. I love that video of the fat kitty trying to get into it’s hammock. I laughed pretty hard at a fake AirPods “commercial” that was like the old iPods commercial with the people in shadow dancing. I like silly things to make me laugh.
Scary Movies: Would you rather be a character in a thriller or a rom com?
Hmm. Well, it would depend on the thriller. I wouldn’t mind being a kickass character. But at the same time, being a lead in a rom com would be fun too. Unless of course the lead male was Seth Rogan because I just don’t like that guy. -_-
Frost: Are you a morning person or a night person?
Well, I don’t know if I’m exactly a night person, I just go to bed kinda late, but I’m definitely NOT a morning person. So not a morning person.
Thanks for asking @seepkis!
Hello! 👋 For the ask thingy: 31, 42, 72?
31: What is your opinion of socks? do you like wearing weird socks? do you sleep with socks? do you confine yourself to white sock hell? really, just talk about socks.
Well! Socks are good. I do like weird socks, and I had toe socks for a little bit but I eventually put holes in all the toes. I would hae all sorts of socks but for some reason fun socks are kinda a little a lot of money. At this moment athletic type socks are what are in my drawer. I can get a multipack for relatively cheap and they seem to last the longest too. As for sleeping in them? When it gets really cold and I can’t seem to warm up, yes I sleep in them, but they need to be kinda loose and fluffy.
42: Do you have a favorite coffee shop? describe it!
I can’t say that I do. I roast coffee, yes, but it’s just a small wholesale business. Now I have a coffee shop in one of my stories and if that were real I would like that place. It has big overstuffed chairs and couches and even a second floor seating area and coffee served in house eventually gets served in handmade ceramic mugs. And there is baked goods brought in everyday--but I don’t know yet who does the baking. Of course maybe some good music in the background, but of course good music is subjective.
72: Are you a person who needs to note everything down or else you'll forget it?
Ha! I just answered this, but to some up my previous answers. I’m not a fan of notes. I’ll use them to note down some thoughts I might have on my writing, but in general, I have issues with notes. But if it’s really important, I’ll try to write it down.

Yes! Everytime I meet another teacher who feels this way, I find a bit more hope
I hope that the extreme testing culture will soon give way to the more flexible needs of teachers and students alike. Testing can kill the desire both to learn and educate, imho.

thank you so much...
