Okay, I have a thing to say..
This show was truly amazing for a lot of reasons
It was one of the first times I really got to see a character with an autoimmune disorder portrayed in a realistic way on screen, and the ways it might affect a relationship. Cosima confessing her illness to Delphine was emotional and Delphine's reaction to that news felt very honest and genuine. Delphine was a trained doctor and a scientist and she still worried and panicked about the unpredictability of Cosima's condition all the time. The stress and her actions of desperation were realistic and heart wrenching.
The problem I have is with the show's decision to have her illness be cured magically through one single injection in the last season. As someone who also has an autoimmune disorder, this was just a bit discouraging. Not once was Cosima's illness the direct reason for their relationship issues and it was never something that put their love for each other on the line, however, their happy ending only really seemed possible after her disease was gone.
The reason I have a little bit of a problem with this is because most people with autoimmune disorders like me will never have the chance to be cured of their illnesses with one little needle, and that should be okay. Living with chronic illnesses or disorders is very challenging and strenuous emotionally, but it should never be the thing keeping people from a loving relationship. It would have been much more fulfilling to have seen them choose to be with each other for the long run despite never having all of the answers involving Cosima's disease, and having to find a longterm treatment instead.
The last season was kind of frustrating and disappointing in a lot of ways, but for me this was the biggest
