it just, ugh

it bothers me so much because it’s so in line with the thinking that when a boy teases, hurts, or in any other way bullies a girl, it’s because the boy likes them and that, since boys will be boys, they should be given another chance, or granted leniency by the girls they’re bullying

she told yawn-el time and time again to back off and let her handle it but he kept pursuing the issue and nearly got his dumb ass killed because he refused to listen to kara, refused to respect her as a person and as a strong literal superhero

and in the end oh no, it’s fine, possessiveness to that degree, jealousy to that degree is totally healthy and should be rewarded with a relationship and possible sex or heavy petting at the least. this is exactly the kind of toxic crap that lands people into unhealthy relationships where they think that kind of behaviour, followed up by a sincere-appearing apology, is acceptable

and i’m so tired of tv shows pushing it and pushing it because i grew up watching that kind of crap on tv and digesting it from my teachers and my elders and my books and i ended up in an abusive relationship with someone because i just didn’t know that that kind of behaviour was wrong and dear god i don’t want anyone else, young girls or boys or anyone in between, to have to watch another strong female character trod down this road

and sure, maybe they’re setting it up to fridge yawn-el and give kara a grief arc. but even if he grows from this experience and becomes a better person, it’s still contributing to this message that kids should give controlling, possessive, jealous people chance after chance after chance because ‘maybe they’ll change’ when the reality is they usually don’t and you might not realise how much danger you’re in until it becomes physical.
