Bruce is a born and bred fighting-dragon in the human underground fighting ring. He is a top fighter in his prime, but is found to have a bit of a soft-side for a rooster his owners come to call nugget, and another future cellmate. He refuses to eat his small cellmate or even allow the humans to remove him. 

Segil- Small, scholarly, rare mix of dragon and gryphon (weasel dragon/vulture gryphon), has a small run-down bookshop kidnapped to be used as a “Bait dog”. Put in with Bruce.

Fighting dragons are usually hidden on livestock farms. They’re bred and raised over the generations of their humans’ families, to keep them loyal, mentally underdeveloped, and away from dragon society. Different families will breed their dragons over an agreement for desired traits. The dragons are commonly kept from learning to use normal speech, limited to more feral communication methods. They are trained to act normal and non-aggressive, if not standoffish, when taken out. Owners will commonly ride on their backs when going to an ‘event’ or elsewhere, as is fairly common in normal society (even with lords high-ranking; carrying their servants when taking them with them a fair distance). Arenas are commonly hidden in silos or deep inside large cave systems. Owners will sometimes kidnap low-ranking dragons, doing a fair amount of research to make sure their absence wouldn’t be noticed, or trade/buy weaker ones from other families, to use as “bait dogs”.

It is extremely rare for a gryphon to be used as a bait dog, or a mix to be bred in. The tribes are very close-knit and even the nomadic ones will be harshly defended by other tribes if there’s wind of one captured.
