The new £6 frame Selectspecs Special backup glasses!
(Plus a truly fetching patch of eczema to accent the "woken up by someone rude on the phone after maybe 4 hours of sleep" Resting Half-Deaf Autistic Bitch Face. 🙄)
Those were actually on order--and already well overdue!--when I sat on the existing ones. But, Plague Time!
They do at least have a warning about delays at the top of every page on their site, but still. I really did not expect their estimate of "7-10 days plus Royal Mail delivery time" to turn into exactly a month, now that I check dates.
Other than that, I'm as pleased with them so far as the other recent glasses which ran like £90 more for the frames, on average! We'll see how they hold up, by comparison.
I didn't really register how similar the frame shape/size was to my previous pair of glasses which I wore for too many years, until they got here. Automatically go for the familiar, I guess. 😅
Though, I actually picked the only £6 model they were offering with obviously adjustable nosepieces, to (hopefully) keep them up and not flying off my non-European lower-bridged nose face. After way too much experience with the huge '80s molded plastic frame glasses, as an extra-klutzy kid. 😬
Looking for a link, they're only selling the burgundy I got for £15 right now--but the black variation of the same glasses seems to be listed at either £6 or £15 for exactly the same model number, depending on which page you select them from?
Anyway, I knew I wouldn't be able to get the £6 complete glasses deal, since my prescription entered "NEEDS extra thin and light lenses" territory probably 20 years ago. But, Selectspecs' extra lens upgrade charge was no higher than we just paid elsewhere, and I did get the complete glasses for a grand total of £36.
Compared to the recent Specsavers £150+ per comparable pair requiring pickup in person, £36 still ain't too shabby!
