Self(ish).
Down the rabbit hole came the man once he found his enemy’s fence. He could not jump or crawl within, he could not dive or fall thence. He could only stare, in silence, and study its flaws from a distance which was not at all enough to understand.
It was a harsh winter.
Slimy, greasy feet wouldn’t stop him from walking through such tricky ground. But, in fear, he himself would stop facing disbelief. They said it would be like this, didn’t they? His mind was full of not so unusual sounds. A mistake to think he was ever alone in hound.
Once he went across the fence, once he faced his enemy... all had melted right before his eyes and he hadn’t realized. In blurred vision, protecting his eyes from the Sun, he filled his lungs with air. What a pleasant feeling to breathe again. And taking his hands out of his face, he suddenly dropped to the ground - now full of greens and sunlight. There was no escape. He could jump and crawl and dive and fall, but there was no strength. His air had escaped.
Spring was not quite there yet.
