About the self-dx... what's the harm in someone self diagnosing if it's gonna help them find a supportive community with healthy ways of coping? They'll gain better understanding of themselves and realise they do need help, are worthy of it, And eventually get help. Also, why is someone illness any less valid just because they can't afford a professional? Most people know themselves the best, and no one takes self-diagnosing lightly. I don't see the point in invalidating someone's struggle
1. Confirmation bias. Look it up. Doctors aren't even allowed to diagnose themselves.
2. It can be harmful. What somebody thinks is schizophrenia might be a brain tumor.
3. Self-dxers tend to speak over people who have actually been diagnosed.
4. Four years of undergrad, four years of medical school, and four years of residency trumps Google. Psychiatrists are physicians. Not everybody realizes this.
5. There's a big difference between saying "I suspect that I might have this" and "I have this".
