3/28/13 writing prompt
will be themed as
High school reunion
doesn't matter what you write or where it takes place, a high school reunion has to tie in some how. style can be whatever - poetry, prose, snippets, full on story.
I actually already started working on this last night when but lost my mood when I got angry about something else. Today I realized I didn't share the prompt. My bad.
for myself I set some challenges. No dialogue (unless it is read i.e. email or texts), there has to be an internal struggle between morality and desire, and most action (not all) described has to take place in the mind (memories, thoughts and fantasies)
After I do the massive spring cleaning today and tomorrow, and sew up two doll dress commissions, I think I will work on this. Anyone else want to join? Id say join the DA group.
Prompt is copied here from the link in case you don't visit right away.
Mar 9 - Mar 15 Somehow I Knew Write a short story or narrative poem around the theme of prescience or precognition. Sometimes people, for reasons nobody can explain, just know things before they happen. Your mission is to work this into a fabulous story of your own devising.
3/5/13 prompt - submitted by Phoebe Wyndham
The crowd showed no fear as he strode onto the platform and plunged the knife into the mayor’s chest, just a blank look.
He pulled the knife out and turned to them; raising the knife up in the air he shouted “You are free, return to your homes and your loved ones. It is over at last!”
They continued to stare at him, the weapons in their hands hanging loosely at their sides. The crowd of men still seemed to be in their zombie like state. He thought that the death of the mayor would have broken the trance that they were in immediately.
Chance’s arm dropped and he started to pace back and forth. “Did you not hear me? Wake up! You have been freed from his control! The Mayor is dead”
A thin man from the front of the crowd started to move and Chance felt relieved. It must be working; perhaps it took a minuet for the trance to wear off. The man, whose blondish hair was streaked with gray and slicked back with grease, began to raise his own hands. In them he clutched a lopsided mace that appeared to not have been serviced in a while. Rust flaked off of the metal set in curved wood.
“Traitor” the man hissed “blood bound murderer” he continued, his face twisting in hatred, his voice getting louder with each word. The men closest to him also began to stir, their weapons bumping against each other and making quiet clunking noises.
The thin man turned to the bulkier fellow to his right, who had started to move at his words. “He sides with the false nuns, the whores! The deceiving witches who came to curse us! Every word out if his mouth is a lie, see how it falls to the ground like so much cow dung”
Chance started to back up, not understanding how they could still be ensorcelled. He was trying to stop the planned attack on the convent, and it seemed like the death of the mayor had no effect on their trance. Just as he was about to turn and run from the stage a pair of hands grabbed him from behind. He quickly slashed at them with his knife and stepped sideways as he was released.
“oh shit, fuck me two days from Sunday. This can’t be happening “ he muttered, as the mayor followed him step for step across the stage . Blood was sluggishly coming out from from his chest yet the wound seemed to be closing. Chance was again grabbed from behind and this time it was the burly hands of a man from the crowd. The mayor snatched the knife from him and gleefully stared at its stained surface.
“Did you think those nuns with their dutiful praying would really stop me?” He asked, running a healing finger over the knife. “I have been at this a long time Hero” he said the last word like it was a joke.
Walking towards Chance and the man holding him, the mayor smiled. His blue eyes were glowing with power and his thin lips stretched into a mocking smile. “This isn’t the first village I have taken over, and once those nuns are out of the way I will be set here for a good long while”
Chance shook his head and tried to pry himself from the strong man’s grip “Not if I ….if we can help it. We will stop you because we will never give up fighting.”
The mayor chuckled “I'm not so sure that’s true” he said, and he plunged Chance’s own knife into his stomach, angling it up between the rib cage. Chance’s eyes widened and blood gurgled in his mouth, and the last thing her heard as he fell to the stage was the mayor addressing the crowd
“My people, we will not allow these holy deceivers to control us any longer. It is time to take a stand against their filth, against their witchcraft. Let us show them what true holy men look like!”
victoria day 11, 30 day challenge
11.) What animal would your character be?
Going to refer to the Chinese zodiac here in saying that she is most like the ox. So if ever there was ever a situation where she turned into an animal, expect to hear her start mooing. Having the traits of the oxen is part of what makes her such a good detective. Instead of writing all the ways in which she is like the ox, let me just put a link here to the description. Cop out? Maybe.
day 12 of the 30d day character challenge
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email?

victoria day 9
9.) Who does your character trust?
Well there are three really important people in Victoria’s life. Her husband Gavin naturally, with whom she has trusted with her heart. Then her partner Riley, who is a friend as well as partner. She trusts him with her life, as he is her back up. She might actually spend more time daily with Riley then she does with Gavin. Then there is her godnana who filled the role of grandmother in her life. She trusts her enough to bring her in on investigations occasionally as a consultant at work. Her Nana’s knowledge often comes in handy when helping either Riley and Vicky, or other detectives in the unit.
