📝 U.S. Judge Rules Amazon Must Face Authors’ Lawsuit Over Audiobook Distribution Dispute
A U.S. federal judge has ruled that Amazon must face a lawsuit filed by author Christine DeMaio (aka CD Reiss), who accuses the company of monopolizing the audiobook market through its Audible platform.
Reiss claims that Amazon's distribution model penalizes independent authors who don’t opt for exclusivity, offering them just 25% royalties compared to 40% for exclusive content. The proposed class action seeks over $5 million in damages on behalf of thousands of self-published writers.
Audible currently dominates the U.S. audiobook market, controlling over 60% of purchases. Amazon has denied any wrongdoing, calling the market “healthy and competitive.”
