So my all time fave pop princess and style ICON Miss Dua Lipa has just recently kicked off her self titled tour. Funnily enough, her first show was in GOOD OL’ BRIGHTON ♡. I was absolutely gutted that I didn't manage to get tickets, as I had to wait for my uni timetable before I could buy, and by that time they had all sold out! GUTTED.
In spite of this I wanted to do a little personal album review. Since Dua’s album came out, I have been listening to it non stop. There are very few albums that I can listen too all the way through, without having to skip songs I hate or don't really please my ears that much.
Dua Lipa (Deluxe) is an incredible album, that not only brings a huge amount of musical pleasure to my ears; it also brings pleasure to my S O U L. Dua has a true talent for writing, and within each song you can really hear the stories and passion behind them.
Whilst listening to the album, you experience an array of emotions. Track #1 Genesis is the best way to open the musical ride; through what seems as if it comes from the depths of her personal diary. Each love song is different, but they all stick to the main sassy pop style that Dua so effortlessly exudes. Lost In Your Light (#2), Be The One (#4), Begging (#11), Dreams (#13), Bad Together (#16) and Last Dance (#17) are the main songs that really express her feelings a lot, and they go through a range of tempos, feelings and messages, but it’s really clear that Dua has a lot of love to give.
On the other hand, she flawlessly created an anthem for any girl that’s been treated badly by a boy with New Rules (#10). It’s been streamed on Spotify nearly 300 million times and has seen her become an idol on Twitter through plenty of girls relating to the track. If they love that, they really need to listen to Track #5, IDGAF. Oh boy, if there is any lad out there treating his girlfriend badly and she listens to this song, you’re probs gonna get dumped hun, as Dua has no shame in calling out her ex in this feisty number.
Track #3 Hotter Than Hell and Tack #6 Blow Your Mind are sassy as ever, and that is probably the best way to describe her. PURE S A S S. Not only that, they're really catchy and I think Hotter Than Hell was the only song I listened to for about a week straight.
Track #15 is actually a special one for me as I first heard it a few years ago in the shop I worked in as it was on the playlist. I was instantly mesmerised by the vocal talent but had no idea who it was by. It wasn’t until the album came out that I actually realised New Love was by Dua and in a way it solidified my love for her music.
The album also has a slower and sophisticated tone coming from Track #8 No Goodbyes and #12 Homesick. Homesick features Chris Martin from Coldplay and their voices blend really nicely together. It’s also quite an emotional song and which isn't always good for someone like me who cries at adverts with cute dogs in them on TV! Track #9 Thinking ‘Bout You is a gorgeous soulful song that I LOVE singing in the shower.
The last 2 tracks Garden (#7) and Room for 2 (#14), were the songs that I wasn’t keen on to start with but really grew on me. The more I listened to them, the more they became stuck in my head and by the end of the week I was singing them on my way to work.
Not only do I love Dua’s music, I love everything about her. Her personality, style but also her sense of self. She's one heck of a strong minded, sassy and sexy 22 year old, who I really think is on her way to even bigger things. She’s unafraid to speak up for what she believes in and GURL we love ya for it.
