So, this is what comes of watching Okami being played for waaay too long. And getting bombarded by Pokemon pictures from your younger sibling. I did some doodles of the mythological figures to accompany the first post of my evolving mythology. I didn’t want to post these though, until I posted that other thing.
So, left to right we have:
Selir the Jealous Cold, Murhel the Lion, Nemhel the Tiger, Urun the Warm One, Nemsir the Lynx, Mursir the Cheetah, Urmur the Sun, Irhir the Moon, and Lumca the Panther.
And a little Okami-esque Foxthroat doodle to accompany my signature in the bottom right.
How Things Came to Be: An Evolution of the Mythology of my Other Worlds
Part 1: The Beginning-The Five
Now, this is not set in my Mountainclan, Marshclan, Forestclan, etc. World. It does incorporate some similar mythological elements, however, as you could say I’m trying to create my ‘perfect’ world, where everything-- beliefs, setting, clans, characters, conlang, etc., comes together to be exactly how I want it. So, with this, I’m trying to achieve my ‘perfect’ mythological evolution.
I will share more on the settings that this is from, however. And will be drawing each of the mythological figures.
Consider this a work-in-progress I hope will soon be complete. Working out the conlang for this has been an ordeal and a half.
In the beginning, there was only Urun1.
Formed like a giant, winged beast of brilliant light, it roamed the vastness of the E-un2 alone. Urun ever sought company, yet no matter how deeply it explore its prison, it could never find any other—until it stumbled into the path of Selir3.
Being the only two beings to exist, they became mates out of the desire to create more like themselves, so they would never have to be alone. Their cold and warmth came together, and they conceived two children, Urmur4 who resembled Uron’s brilliance, and Irhir5, who reflected Selir’s chill.
Now, however, Selir was not satisfied, desiring to break free of the E-un and venture beyond it to seek further land and perhaps other beings. Urun disagreed, and through continued altercations, their argument turned to violence.
Being so large and powerful, they shredded one another, and rent great holes in the pelt of the E-un. Bursting forth, they tumbled down to the Living World6. Upon impact, Selir was stunned, but Urun, terribly wounded, shattered.
Urmur and Irhir watched in horror. As one they dove through a hole in the E-un and sped to the sides of their parents. Urun was beyond aid, broken into five pieces: head, body, legs, wings, and tail. Selir, however, was merely stunned, having fallen on top of Urun and been shielded from the impact by the other’s body.
Filled with anger, Urmur and Irhir dragged Selir back to the sky and forced it through the tears in the E-un. They then tore out their own claws and teeth to hold the tears together to prevent Selir ever reaching the Living World again.
They then realized, however, that there were still five small gaps in the E-un, and that would defense there, Selir might work these into large rents and could again escape. So they turned to Urun’s body and formed each piece into one of the Five First Cats7, who would stand guard over these places.
From Urun’s head, they created Murhel the Lion8, a pale yellow cat with very thick stripes and long fur.
From Urun’s body they created Nemhel the Tiger9, a brown cat with thin stripes and fierce claws.
From Urun’s legs they created Nemsir the Lynx10, a brown spotted cat with large paws.
From Urun’s tail they created Lumca the Panther11, a solid black cat with great grace.
From Urun’s wings they created Mursir the Cheetah12, a yellow spotted cat with great speed.
These creations they set at each ‘Gap’13 in the E-un, while Urmur and Irhir themselves took to the sky. They divided rule of this up between them; Urmur with their brilliance got the daylight, while Irhir crept through the night, reflecting the chill and keeping watch in the darkness.
For a time, everything was safe, and all were contented.
