We are premiering a new track from the forthcoming collaboration between JG Thirlwell & Simon Steensland, Oscillospira. Entitled 'Papal Stain', the new track features Thirlwell & Steensland along with guests Morgan Ågren (Devin Townshend Band, Zappa, Mats Morgan) on drums, Simon Hanes (Tredici Bacci) on guitar, Chris McIntyre (Tilt Brass, Either/Or, SEM Ensemble) on trombone and Joanna Mattrey (Tredici Bacci) on violin. The album will be released on CD, double vinyl and digital April 24 on Ipecac Records. You couldn't pick a weirder time to release an album, so please consider buying it when it is released! You can order in advance from Ipecac, or even better, buy from the Foetus Shoppe when we launch it soon! While you are over on YouTube, please subscribe to the Ectopic Ents channel . Thanks for your support and stay safe!

03.23.19 Mivos Quartet are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year and celebrated with a concert at SEM Ensemble’s home base on Willow Place. They performed pieces by Alvin Lucier, Alex Mincek, Mivos/Kanter Prize winner Alex Huddleston and collaborated with two piano/two percussion ensemble Yarn / Wire
02.13.19 Karl Larson performed Corey Bracken’s Brux at a concert of New Works by Emerging Composers by SEM Ensemble presented by Petr Kotik at their HQ at Willow Place. Also performed were pieces by Henry Threadgill, Gregory McRae, Jonathan Delazer, Ian Davis, Judith Berkson, Jon Myers and Anna Heflin.
"Šípková Růženka" ("Sleeping Beauty") is the debut album by beat combo Rebels, as issued on the Czech State-run label Supraphon in 1968. You've probably skipped past this one in the preternaturally voluminous Prague record bins numerous times, having missed the sole credit that evelates & makes it apropos to this whole enterprise: future SEM Ensemble leader Petr Kotik is credited on "Elektronika" and sure enough, brief interludes between tracks are quite woolly, with some "Rock Workshop" esque Concrète & synthesizer flourish peppering the proceedings throughout.
12/07/16 SEM Ensemble presented an intimate preview of its annual holiday concert Musica Elettronica at the Willow Place Auditorium in Brooklyn Heights. Laurie Spiegel presented A Harmonic Algorithm (2011), based on Bach. Michael J. Schumacher presented two pieces Filters and Filtered (2011-present) and an electroacoustic piece for NextWorks which gave the feeling of an update of electronic works from the 1950s. Petr Kotik presented Kontrabandt (1967) for tape and percussion. The evening concluded with a four channel playback of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s 1956 piece Gesang der Jünglinge.
