There were tears, smiles, laughs, more tears, and promises of keeping in touch floating through the air. | Semester at Sea Chronicles | MV World Odyssey | December 23, 2017 | Disembarkation Day | Did you forget that my semester abroad was a full semester of college education? When we weren’t out exploring the world, we were on the ship taking a full semester’s course load, learning from the best of the best. I was fortunate enough to have three professors who are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about tourism, geography, and teaching students how to evaluate the world in new ways. The student - professor relationships on the ship were unlike any I have experienced before. I lived directly across the hall from all of my professors. Not kidding. I had a professor knock on my door one day just to see if I wanted a cookie. We shared meals with them in the dining halls, we sat next to them at educational lectures, and we even had the pleasure of traveling with them. If you didn’t travel with them, there was plenty of time to catch up and swap travel stories. It created such a unique bond. I learned about the tourism industry in the classroom, but what really made an impact was our field classes. I dove head first into real life tourism industry current events. These experiences are invaluable to my education and my understanding of the industry I now work in.
