Hi, I was just wondering if you tumblers have any advice for me on how to engage and make the kids I work with feel comfortable as the kids I work with have special needs and I only stay in a specific school for a week at most at the moment? Anything I can research or do classes on?

No, probably not. You need a statement for that, and EHCP (Education Health and Care Plan) and they're like gold dust - and our council is notorious for just refusing. We did try to get the EHCP and they wouldn't even assess him despite him meeting the criteria to be assessed.
I will try again for the EHCP before he finishes primary, so I have more choice for secondary, but the waiting lists for SEN schools is insane. They never have enough space. Also, it's social skills and understanding he struggles with - I think he needs the mainstream academics for his interest, but I'd love if they had, like, off-shoot groups for social/emotional support for him.
