Living in Georgia and seeing the constant ads and sound bites has been really enlightening when you look at how each political party reaches its base.

While Democratic ads and policies are usually hopeful for a better future (“let’s get healthcare for all, let’s create a nation that champions racial justice”), Republican ads are fear-mongering to the extreme (“ stop the radical left and their socialist agenda”)

Of course, there’s rampant ad hominem on both ends, and some of what is promised by the Democrats will not be possible even if they do control both parts of the legislature.

Not to mention the issues with lobbying and corruption that negatively influence both parties.

But it’s nice to realize that I’m standing with the party based on hope and change rather than the one that is trying to get people out to vote by relying on fear of the unknown.
