Yancy is a handsome 8 year old bachelor; all dressed up wearing his tuxedo, to add a touch of class to any home. He was found as a stray on a cold December day in 2015. It took him awhile to warm up to community living, but he has calmly settled in, waiting for his forever family to find him. Yancy is a laid back, gentle guy, with a soft purr when he is petted. He has golden eyes that look wisely out at his world and invite visitors to stroke and brush his silky fur. When his head is massaged, he leans in asking for more. Favorite play time involves dangling feathery toys. As a wise, senior guy, he knows he can't catch the laser red dot; so he doesn't bother to chase it. He gets along well with his companions in Meow Manor, so he would do fine in a multi-cat family, or as a sole companion. Please come in and meet him. Gina Ball and her then-fiance Spencer adopted their first cat, Mungo, from the Fairfax County Animal Shelter in 2012 after seeing him on social media. “We always look at the older cats when looking to adopt since they're typically harder to place; everyone wants a kitten” says Ball. Though they knew their time together would be short, the new family savored every moment of their bond for the next two and a half years. Mungo had a life worth living. He served the most noble purpose of all: fortifying the love between those who cared for him most.

Mungo's parents were devastated when his bright light was extinguished by cancer. “This was a really hard time for us, but it was then that a lot of people showed their support: my entire office collected $300 worth of donations for FCAS in honor of Mungo, and our vet even donated to the Cornell Veterinary College Feline Health Center in honor of him as well”.

The legacy of love didn't end there. For their wedding, the couple chose to make a $5 donation per guest to FFCAS in honor of the sweet soul that brought them even closer together. Each guest was given a small card as a token, explaining how their friendship and support would echo through the aid we lend homeless animals. After all, every pet in the shelter is somebody's Mungo.

“For gifts, many of our friends and family donated to FCAS and FFCAS in our names and Mungo's honor, which is one of the best gifts we could receive”.

It wasn't long after Mungo's passing that the couple mustered the strength to open their hearts to another senior cat.

Vivienne had been at the shelter for weeks, often dismissed as a snaggle-toothed novelty rather than a viable candidate by most visitors. Gina and Spencer saw the spark in her and knew their next great love on sight. FCAS helped fund her dental work, which relieved her of pain and her remaining teeth. “I miss her snaggletooth, but it's kind of adorable because now her tongue sticks out a lot. She also gummed my ankle the other night “. “I think we will always look at the older cats first when looking to adopt because they need love regardless of age, and have so much love to give. “ says Gina.
